Dog cage for Octy Estate with variable boot floor

Featured Replies

We're moving from a hatch to an estate shortly. We have a dog cage we use in the hatch for our Westie but it only just fits under the plastic bar behind the back seats. Since we're moving to the estate with the variable floor, I think it won't fit with the difference in floor height.

Anyone recommend a dog cage that will fit with the variable floor? Needs to be big enough for an average sized Westie.

Thanks.

I not sure I understand what you mean by " only just fits under the plastic bar" is this the boot cover holder?

There are very few (I've not found one yet) low dog cages that fit under the cover - it fact I take them out when fitting the dog cage for our Basset Fauve. in both the A6 Avant and Octavia estate (with no variable floor). We have just got another One so will now need a double cage.

Apologies, I'm confusing the new car and the old car. On our current hatch we usually remove the parcel shelf but squeeze the dog cage under the plastic shelf support on the right hand side of the boot. This is to maximise space on the left hand side of the boot since we carry lots of stuff (since we now have baby and dog), I know with the new car with the raised floor we couldn't do that.

If the boot cover holder on the estate comes out, that might make it easier. Is it straight forward to remove/refit? I was looking forward to not having to take out a parcel shelf every time the dog needs to go in the car. I thought the retractable cover might be the answer.

The boot cover comes out really easily and is easier to store than a parcel shelf. We have the crate all the time (unless it needs to go into the other car) . You can leave the cover in but if the crate is higher than it you can't use it anyway and you end up with an awkward space between the crate and the back of the seat. We have one of these http://www.zooplus.c...and_boxes/95034 which isn't going to a be a lot of good with two dogs.

The variable boot floor is easy enough to remove, and if you're going to have a dog crate sitting on it then it's pretty much useless anyway. Why don't you just take it out and use the crate you have?

Hmm.Think I'll need to see how it all works when we get the new car. I don't really want to take the variable floor out - the dog's cage isn't always in the car and I like the idea of the concealed space under the floor. Being able to sit in the boot with legs dangling out sounds like it might be useful too!

I think being able to remove the boot cover will probably be the key.

The dog guard would be good if he was a bit bigger and we didn't fill the other half of the boot with all our stuff when we travel.
