  • It is for reliable boost and less lag of warm running which a remap can increase, but depends on how you are using your car. I live in Havant so not far from you.

  • i will be frank, go and spend that 5k on a proper performance car to start with, it would be easier..cheaper dare i say better too as that quote doesnt even address the handling issues with the octy,

  • thats a nice car and would whip the vrs...literally in both speed and handling

hmmm, that is a long way incase its naff!

i dont know enough about jap cars to comment, i have always had an r34 as a guilty pleasure in my exotic garage tho:>

if it seems to good to be true it normally is

on a note with regards to the wonderful VRS how can I tell if it's been remapped???

I am thinking about what to do, so this thread and the new turbo one is good as getting good input to read.

is fitting an fmic worth it on standard turbo with remap?

tbh i thought that i got a quote to see how much it would all be however my head is screwd on tight so i will be going for seccond hand parts, handeling is all sorted on my car just need the brakes upgraded tbh haha Ive got an s3 upper and lover strut brace to go on but my car has already been pollybushed and has coilovers and a front and rear arb, tbh im going to get it to stage 2 before i go prauge then its on for a hybrid turbo next year, i will make sure i dont go overboard spending wise haha

As other said you can get a lot of that stuff cheaper if you look for it. I know if you contact Forge direct from the forum you will get great price for a FMIC...

Forget Miltek if yo want to save money, get Piper or even Remus.

Is it worth spending £5k on a £2k car?

I think it is...

Why does a car have to be £5k+ to spend on it......

If we are talking to break even on a car then no. but who of us in the these VRS now expect to break even when selling...

My car is not worth much , but i am still going to have fun with it. I know i could get a Jap car all done up, but that is too easy and where is the fun.

Need a LSD big time now in readiness to fit my lightened and balanced SMF and clutch kit. who can point me in the direction of a good one..

wavetrac mark, get it next time you are in cali, put it in your bag on the way back...job done!

ah that was it Luca... Got that link buddy...

however cheap fmic pass, too much pipework causes lag, on a stock smic you can get better results than a cak fmic, good fmics cost a lot, and on a stock car, are slight overkill.

Even for stage 1&2 i would run an uprated smic.

http://www.wavetrac.net/

though i would get from a supplier, as they can offer discounts on top of the rrp

Go see what 10k buys you in terms of evo, sti, skyline, s4, s3 etc etc etc

Or maybe an E92 335i. 308bhp standard, handling that is as solid as anything else for silly money (without completely shaking your skeleton out of your skin), and easily remappable for up to 370bhp. Now that is money better spent IMO.

lol, indeed, my mate had a 335d, now that was a flipping rocket!

bowders1 i agree totaly with you yh i bought the car for £1700 but i love it yeh i could get a jap monster or a crazy car but i love this one. its like a woman if you love her you will buy her lots of things and you will get more out of her :p ok thats a bit crude but you know what i mean! the more you put in the more you get out, hell i dont care that ill never get the money back but i love to drive it. It will be nice to have something unique plus i can always turn around and say this is what you can do to an octy vrs if you put your time and money into it!

Plus to be honest this car will be with me forever i have no plans to sell her! :)

ok, sorry for being thick here. SMIC (standard mount intercooler?) what would be needed for this one then as looks like it bolts onto original pipework?

all thats required is some trimming of the crash bar i believe, it replaces the standard side mounted intercooler completely

so angle grinder and some hand tools,

i will be purchasing this intercooler mid may so will post pics up when i have it fitted

:)

SMIC = Side Mount Intercooler

You can get uprated SMIC that fit where the std one goes. These are bigger and have a better large core.

FMIC = Front Mount Intercooler

The one in that FMIC kit you will not need any parts which is the benefit of a kit....

Mind you not sure it has the SMIC sensor adapter in it?? which you will need to hold the one from you std SMIC

Someone can confirm that.

This is why I like the Forge FMIC as everything is in the kit. And as you can get them now for £200 less than I paid 2 years ago is not bad. Can get them for £500.
