Common MPI engine oil leak points?

Featured Replies

I have replaced the Cam Shaft Position Sensor oil seal on front of the engine which appeared to be leaking. I have recently discovered an oil leak dripping from the low point of the engine in front of the bottom engine mount. Upon smelling the oil it does indeed appear to be engine oil, not gear oil. Is it common for the sump bolts to work loose, like they did on the older Favorit and Felicia 1.3's? Could the leak simply be due to using 5w-40 instead of 10w-40? TIA.

Blast it off with degreaser/cleaner and make sure it's actually a leak then try and follow it back upwards to it's source, I thought I had a leak but it turned out the previous garage to service the car were simply cack handed. I've not had to do a sump on an mpi (unsurprising as i've only just got this one) but I have had cases in the past where liquid gasket was used by the factory on a previous car and it failed causing a slow weeping, as the sump was corroded past the point of no return anyway I did the lot at the next service.

Just about every MPi sump I see leaks inc mine..lol

Lol, just reminded me a mechanic at a garage I took the Favorit to for an MOT said all of them (referring to that type of Skoda engine) leak.

Need to get my ramps from Leeds at some point, the Fabia is a bit lower slung than the Favorit was so can't get my head under there to see what's going on.
