One mod

Featured Replies

I'm 21 very soon so my insurance will hopefully be mod friendly. I have a vrs and not too much cash at the moment.

So a little game, as I can only afford one mod for the time being, If you only were allowed one mod for your vrs what would it be? And why?

I'm thinking a decent remap, maybe unit 18, I'm hoping it will transform the car.

Is there a particular part of the car you think needs improving?

If not, I'd go for the map (I have a unit 18 map, spot on IMO). As long as your brakes are decent the stock setup although lacks a bit of feel, still stops the car well enough, the same setup is on the new vrs so they can't be that bad.

The standard mapping is awful, hated the boost spike at 1900rpm, once mapped its all smoothed out so not only is it quicker but when driving steadily it's nicer to drive too!

Agree with above and i expect everyone else will aswell. so much smoother to drive.

Not something I would admit on a forum!

You should declare all mods to your insurer!

Suspension. The standard set up is truly awful

Map is traceable there some software anyone can get free on net that can compare maps. Am guessing insurance will have something better. They do anything to avoid payout.

Rarb, will improve the way the car corners and is a nice cheap DIY mod.

I've been considering a map, rear anti-roll bar and then new springs/coil overs in that order. Map from Shark, the adjustable Whiteline ARB and not sure on the coil overs.

However I think the rear ARB would make the car a little tail happier/twitchier under cornering and braking, perhaps not the best thing for younger drivers? Then again if it tightens the wayward line of the car... (this is a consequence of having a boat engine up front, made of pig iron, concrete and depleted uranium trying to keep everything heading towards 12 o'clock) perhaps an adjustable rear ARB set softish might be a good idea?

Just ring them and ask how much it would be if you were to get it re-mapped, hopefully it will be cheap. I declared everything incl map and coilovers for £34, but then I am 23. It's not untraceable if you put it in your posts and signature on a public forum tho is it? You've put a pic of your reg plate in your sig too...

Naughty naughty...

On and to the OP, my single mod would be a re-map.

Good news, having a bonus from work end of month so definitely goin for a unit 18 remap, and from your opinions some kind o handling mod

Coilovers or RARB?

RARB is cheaper, and gives you more bang for your buck. :)

Coilovers! Gets rid of the comedy ride hight and makes it handle too. win win.

Edited...learnt my lesson. i will ring my insurance tomorro im 22 nearing 23, who are you with. coilovers are a good mod i done mine this weekend and yes they know about that one its abit to obvious to hide. Cost me 30 on top and im half way through my policy

Map will put your insurance up by the most compared to other mods.

If you only have one choice, get a decent set of coilovers, as matt says, will improve the looks no end and make the handling a bit more manageable; best bang for buck solution when it comes to modding and insurance.

312mm brakes made the biggest difference for me, and I've got a map, coilovers, Jabba ARB.

The standard brakes really didn't fill me with confidence.

As most of the other mods people are suggesting are to get you to go faster, and having been a firefighter for almost 25 years and seen the results of going faster on too many occasions, I can promise you stopping faster is more important than going faster.

But with decent pads and discs the stock brakes are more than up to the job, the fact they use them on the new vRS with more power than a mapped fabia will ever make shows they are. Dont get me wrong, if he feels that the brakes need uprating then get them done first, thats why I asked if there was any parts that he considered "lacking" but on the whole they are more than capable.

Recently replaced all discs and pads and brakes feel quite good tbh. Wil be something I will improve in future however. Going for a remap and RARB at the same time, then 312mm and then hopefully coil overs when I eventually upgrade wheels

It will be like a different car :)
