vRS Cambelt - 4 year interval

Featured Replies

Is the recommendation still 4 years on time regardless of mileage? It seemed to differ for a while

Had mine changed at 4 years, and about 11k or something, phoned skoda and they said its 4 years or 40k so either

:( due again next year and only just got over 15 damit

Funny how VW recommend 5 yrs or 60k for the same engine :wonder:

Mine was done just under 4 years ago and I'm planning to do it later this year. Someone locally bought the kit to do his Golf 1.8t then found on his service history it was done last year so I'm getting the bits cheap off him :)

Considering doing it myself.

Mine is 4 years and a half, and I'll change just the belt and pulley by myself too.Is a quite easy job, needs just a little attention .

2 days ago with a more experienced friend had changed the clutch and gearbox on a mk3 golf.

Isn't it a full belt inspection @ 4 years/60k miles?

In my service book it just says belt inspection @ 60,000 miles then every 20,000 miles. Does not even mention years in it.

Yeah didnt they change it all, i ended up giving skoda a ring due to all the stuff i heard

:( then was told 4 years or 40k whatever cam 1st

Arse :(

That means its due again end of next year damit.... Lucky if done 10k with it this bloody time :(

They recomend water pump chages at the same time , would this be the case everytime too ?

Thanks Lloyd. Haha I am in a similar situation then. Mine has only done 12k since it was changed, just a bit of a bugger that was 3 years ago!!

I would get the pump done, it only adds about £30-40 to the price of the job and unlike the cambelt you can't tell if the pumps on it's last legs unless it's taken it out of the engine (or the car starts overheating)

My car is about 63.000 km and 4.5 years since the last cambelt(OEM Gates).....but I don't care about those numbers, because I saw it and it's a bit "stretched",so replacement must be done

I had mine done when the car was four and a half years old and the water pump impeller disintegrated when they removed it.

That's why the four years - the plastic goes brittle. Not sure if they have fixed the issue with later revisions of the pump?

Do you think 6.5 years and 52,000 miles is being a bit bold
