I'd recommend a remap

Featured Replies

Just had a remap on my 2005 skoda octy II 1.9 TDI PD. Was a rather tame 105 horsepower now up to 140 horsepower after a remap at the Car Tuning Clinic in Edinburgh.

If you are ever doubting the remap option I recommend it. It's like I'm driving a different car. It's more far responsive, smooth and pulls well in higher gears. As a result my fuel efficiency has gone up due to less gear changing and I find overtaking a breeze.

Initially I thought that a remap wasn't for me but I convinced myself that if I could save 10%-15% in fuel every mile then it would pay back in about 2 years (I'm not planning to buy a new skoda for at least 5/6 years). Since my remap there are very noticeable fuel savings, at least 10% but I'd say more. Mainly because I drive it like I did before but I can see how getting a remap for some tempts them into driving harder. It certainly puts a smile on my face when I put the foot down.

So if you are thinking about a remap then I'd say go for it. I hope you can save money in the long-run and have an all-round better driving experience.

Congrats, your fun time with the car starts now! How much did you pay for it?

I got the remap done a month back on my Car, which is again an Octy II 2004 PD TDi. I had similar doubts before getting the remap done and was very confused to go in for a Remap or a Box ("Performance Box" latched on to between ECU and Sensors/Injectors). But after carefully analyzing, I decided on the Remap and am really happy about this choice today.

I picked up this Self Tuning Box (STB) on Internet for almost £299 (excluding VAT) including shipping. The Package includes 2 free maps; 1.) "Performace" and 2.) "Economy", and ofcourse you will backup your original stock Map making it the 3rd, so all in all, you have 3 maps to choose from at any given point in time. Though these maps are not "custom" made for your car and are basically common ones, they do work real good. You only need to connect this box to your OBD Port in the Car and programming/tuning the Car takes under 15 mins.

The day I got my box, I programmed the "Performance" Map into my Car and took off for a test drive. It was absolutely amazing and mad. Initially, after driving for about a few 100 mts, the car seemed to be the same with no difference, and then pressing the accelerator pedal hard, unleashed the hidden beast within. It just zipped past cars on the road. The pull is crazy on revs of 2200+ and continues till half the gap between the red lines. I have also noticed this, when I press hard the pedal, there sometimes is a very "slight" wheel-spin even in the 3rd gear!

I have always been a slow, smooth and a patient driver before the remap, but with this remap done, it has made me a little aggressive in driving (not reckless though). Overtaking has become so much easy and fun. The Fuel economy has slightly increased but it is not much of importance to me as I use this car once a while only. Now, with almost 140 BHP in Power and 320+ Nm of Torque (not tested it on Dyno, but that is what they claim and that is what it seems to be with the change in performance), touching triple digits in speed is super easy.

I have tried the other map too, the "Economy", but trust me, you will never go back to any other map once you have tasted the "Performace" Remap.
