First Briskoda National Meet - Pictures

Featured Replies

Looking back through my old pictures having been prompted by a PM, I found these.

These pictures were taken in June 2002 at the first ever Briskoda national meet. We all went to Silverstone to watch the BTCC, and even had a member of our European contingent present.

Those were the good old days.

Back in the days before the 'real' vRS was even buit :giggle:

Nice pic's,

was that Benji's est?

Who had the VRS Taxi?

No, that was not Benjies estate. The white estate belonged to Tavia4x4 (Ian), and the yellow vRS taxi was indeed really a Taxi from scotland however the owners id and name escapes me.

I do wonder how many of these cars are still around, I know my old one was until January this year when it was sold to a breakers yard by the then owner.

good pics, been to the national meet at gaydon a few years ago and that was a fantastic day. hopefully the one for this year will go ahead

Only 1 silver and 1 red!! :o

Red one was mine, I owned it for 3 more years after this event. The silver one belonged to a member from Holland and was a fully setup for one thing, and that was driving the Nurburgring. When he came over he had a lot of trouble getting on / off the ferry from France to the UK due the lowered suspension. His car was very special and I had been a passenger in it many times on the ring.

No Fabias ?

In 2002 I'd guess not many fabia owners were up for it. No vRS at that time either.

The MK1 Fabia was fairly new at the time, so not very common. The Fabia vRS was several years away and nobody knew if there was even going to be one, so if you wanted a vRS you had one choice only and that was the Octavia 1.8T.

Before the Fabia vRS the Fabia really didn't sell well, and it was the Fabia vRS that kicked off Fabia sales across the range. Back then everyone associated the Fabia with the Favorit and Felicia that went before, they were good cars of course but Skoda were still shaking off the bad reputation in the UK.

The Octavia on the other hand, did not have that stigma, and sold well from its UK release. When the MK1 vRS was added to the range, I bought the dealer showroom car otherwise I was looking at a long wait due to demand for the vRS which was actually hand built at the time in a different factory to the main Octavia production line.

In 2001 the MK1 Octy vRS cost £15,100 new and you could not specify any options when first released, so you had the vRS with its set specification and was available in 4 colours only.

End of the "real vrs" life they were only £13k as well as they were being sold along side the mk2. Think they also had unlimited mileage warranty when they first came out.

The roller skate came along in late 2003 as was a big hit. Years later the boy racers came along.

That brings back some memories. Was it the first Briskoda meet, or the last VWvortex meet?

Spot the odd one out! :giggle:

Is it only 1 estate or only 1 person has a beard?? :D

The silver one belonged to a member from Holland and was a fully setup for one thing, and that was driving the Nurburgring.

Only a bloody dutch man !!!
