Another laugh for you,,,

I was in an attempt to follow a speeding car on the motorway, in an un marked car, I was doing 93mph, when the car lit up,,,, a range rover was flashing me out of the way!!!!

I moved over, Mr impatient over took and I caught him at 113mph

Any way he went to court, bought a top well known solicitor, to get him off,,, I attended, with my CCTV of the incident,,,,,,,

Five minutes later I walked out of court

He was banned for 18 months and £600 fine!!!!

I was working with the Carabinieri traffic guys in Italy with blue lights at a reasonable pace above posted limit and it was AMAZING how many people UNDERTOOK us and on the whole they didn't care bar one senior police officer who was in passenger seat one day who went head and shoulders belt off out the window furiously waving his lollipop stick at a Porsche doing the same was more or less sitting out window at speed was a circus tbh.

Ha ha what cars did the Italian police have???

They have got a rs250

Andy

They have some impressive publicity vehicles for show but mainly Alfa's and Fiat's too many Punto's for my liking tbh but 159's seemed to be the staple

Yea the overall level of respect shown to the Police in most other EU countries is far greater. TBH they do not seem to have anything resembling a UK class one driver its a different planet for road culture (in Italy). Policie Ceské Republiky are worse again totally spanners wrong way up motorways on bikes peak traffic, scary to see their mortality rate must be horrific! However the public have a very healthy respect and immediate obedience towards them, I am left with the impression that back chat is something they would not know how to deal with on roads as they don't seem to experience it lol.

For the police/army side of police forces the RUC of late was an extremely well structured constabulary was advising Police forces the world over on almost every aspect of Policing. RIP!

That is a scary thought!!!!

Wrong way up the motorway!!!!

And I am talking between lanes 1 and 2 here reason given as when they turn back around its safer then emerging from the emergency lane for a U turn.... Appeared to be a not uncommon practice! This was before they joined the EU though.

This is not something I've had any experience of (being a law abiding citizen), but every time I watch 'Traffic Cops' or 'Police, Camera, Action' I get wound up... The average attitude (usually of the younger lot) is seriously atrocious!

If I were in charge of law making in this country, these disrespectful prats would soon respect our Police (and Fire, Medical, Armed) Forces or be locked up!

on my 1.6 Tdi "vrs" :giggle: done 197km/h (electronically limited at around 3750rpm)

Not enough IMO, should be banned for 60 months and £6000.00 fine, might make people listen!

And BMW drivers ;)

What staggers me is how many big 4x4 drivers do 100mph. chances of stopping/changing direction safely at that speed in something close to 2 1/2 tonnes is hard to imagine.

Inappropriate speed for the conditions kills... No matter the drivers ability or cars ability. Right place right time - no problem.

Ive slowed down alot recently - self preservation.... And learnt that you can have just as much fun in a car with half the power (one previous car did have 530bhp however!)

How fast have I driven in the vrs? 70mph of course :)

Glad to see alot more proper traffic police out there - s'cameras were the big thing in cheshire - great for catching speeders but rubbish at identifying dangerous driving!

The big draw back to speed cameras replacing traffic police that I see is you don't get caught and stopped from speeding there and then (removing the danger which is the reason we have speed limits), but instead you get told you were caught up to 14 days later in the post......... Surely the REAL danger was up to 14 days before at the time now 2 weeks after the event looking for £60 and to give you some points to help boost the insurance companies profits aswell. Most people tend to hate the things in general and has created its own culture in that light now. Where as being pulled over by a Police officer with XX years experience in dealing with this sort of thing can not only NIP you there and then verbally and save the environment a little but can give you the lecture of your life and possibly get threw to the driver and maybe just maybe make them change. A letter in the post saying "hahaha £60 or see you in court" cannot have the same effect!

For someone to be speeding seeing a camera slowing then happily sinking their foot back down as they know its clear to then kill someone where if no camera existed and it had of been a traffic vehicle would have more likely saved a life. Bloody shame to have so many of the stupid fixed things about. Certain places they are brilliant at slowing traffic at known accident black spots but only are effective for the 50 odd meters after the camera when the driver KNOWS they are in the clear again.

We have an inappropriate name for speed camera,s!!!!

I have always said you are missing out on the interaction with the public, why were you speeding??? And ,,, did you see that car pull out on me I had to quickly overtake,,, and I would say ,,, yes I did see that,,, and advice the driver,, public conception of police high,, and I have interacted with the community and given advice,,,, job done!!!!!

Don't forget the fact that when driving past a speed camera the driver is probably paying more attention to the speedo than the road!

Hmmm the correlation between accident black-spots and cameras is bang-on. People will do speeding along, see a camera and stand on the brakes. (Possibly losing control and/or causing the speeding car behind them to lose control.) and then return to speed after they've been through the grid. I think the "accident black-spot" is created by the camera.

Why not have the speed camera close enough to the pelican crossing so it could double-up as a red-light camera? (The electronics isn't that hard to do.) Then you could also catch people driving though red-lights........which is far far more dangerous in town. Dual-function camers. Blimey, now there's an idea. ;)

The same with driving through a SPECS controlled road-works. Too many people worried about their speed and not the car in front (who is also worried about his speed and not the car in front of him.)

For me, this is where cruise-control or speed limiter is a prime idea. My brother has got speed limiter on his Scenic. Can't do more than what it's set to.....more concerntration on the car in front :) :) With cruise engaged, you can see just how bad humans are in these situations at keeping a constant speed.

I have always said that the government tell to much to the public

It would be of more benefit to say that this road or motorway has a speed camera located on it,,, yes it really does and catch them that way!!!!

Andy

Am i missing the point here, sorry to say 250vrs, but i've read the 2 posts you've done on the forum and so far all I've seen is how do i make my car quicker, or not as quick as last one, yet then say traffic officer and people shouldn't speed, so why isn't standard car quick enough ?

Top speed 150mph, 0.62 in 7 secs, how quick should it be.

Don't get me wrong, my last 3 cars

Scooby 300bhp,

bmw 330d mapped.

now vrs - yes it's the slowest of the 3, but too be honest on UK roads now days, when can you really do more than a ton anyway, and most days that would be stupid, the beauty of these cars are they are quick IF you need them too be, but moreover, they are econimical for the type of car they are, cheap to insure/run and big with space for the family.

I'd say enjoy the car as it is for a while and then think do you really need the remap, I always regretted mapping the BMW as found the auto box struggled to cope with increase in torque.. maybe skoda set the power for a reason.

just my views. sorry if i offend anyone.

  • Author

You have not offended one bit , thank you for your comments and views

You are 100% right yes I have asked about speed and 0 60 and how to make faster as hypothetical questions

I have read car magazines since I could read, not a few years!!!, and have always taken an interest in speed and times, why ? Because when I see nice cars I like to think how fast does that go and how fast in comparison to mine

I drive like miss daisy, once I put pedal to metal on an airfield, and thats it, after that I would know how fast mine would go, and when cars sniffed round me I would think,,,, buy a car magazine and see!!!!!!!

Having been to more than I like to mention fatal accidents when speed is a factor does put people off

I hope I have answered your question and you never offended me really you helped open my eyes why I ask them questions, so thank you

no thank you, I am same, subscribe to Auto express and always check it out, and as said in Scooby etc, did the speed as part of advanced training course and yes did once get stopped by police in a van when travelling too quick and response got "thanks for stopping we'd have never kept up and nice car", I apologised and continued without any penalty, and yes was above 100 at the time,

BUT

I know from personal experiene having lost 2 family members under the age of 20 to car accidents when they not driving that speed contributes to accidents but so does inexperience and as people say on here, there are times when speed is needed, and having been in fast response vehicles a fair bit, with training can be done safely.

It is nice too know what the cars can do or not, and like you say family aboard drive like miss daisy thinking of the fuel savings and space, but if you in alone and roads safe you know you can play with the right foot and enjoy the car, sometimes just nice from standing start to speed limits to see look on the boy racers face at side of you!! :giggle:

I could not agree more

Nice to meet a fellow car enthusiast who thinks same as me!!

Andy
