clutch niggle

Featured Replies

Hi all

So, I've being a member on here since I got my Skoda Ocatvia... which by the way is a brilliant car, about a year and a half ago now. I must say this is my first and hopefully the last post I'll put on here asking about problems with my car. We'll see what happens.

My car, its a 2010 2.0L PD TDi, with a 6 speed manual gear box and its done about 50,000 km's (I'm in australia... so metric measurements are the go). The problem is when the clutch pedal is pressed (or depressed, it doesn't matter) there is a harsh rattling noise. The conditions to make the noise happen are the engine has to be running, no gear selected (so in neutral). The noise will start at about the point where I'd expect the clutch to engage if I was to take off or change gear.

The clutch doesn't feel like its worn or worn unevenly, it still feels the same and the car drives as I'd expect it to. I'm not sure if the rattle happens when in gear, I haven't being able to pick up on it.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had a similar issue and what the problem was?

Thanks

Doesn't sound like a DMF problem to be honest. More likely the clutch release bearing is making the noise. Unfortunately its a gearbox out job for a part which only costs a few quid. Any good garage or transmission specialist will be able to confirm it.

Could well be just the release bearing thats noisey. Are you having any judder when taking up drive?

There is no judder when taking off. Its actually hard to notice the problem if say someone else drives the car, think the deisel engine noise might be masking the noise as well.

Also just off topic, am i right in saying the clutch is cable driven?

Clutch is hydraulic operated, not cable, on 2.0L 6-speed.
