First 20 Liters of fuel cost me

Featured Replies

Most of the way through filling up the car, I realised ITS A DIESEL........ :wall:

Did not start car pushed it to car park (Luckily is was at supermarket)

Phoned Green Flag, Picked up, drained, flushed and back on road with 20L in car. 2hours.

I wont be doing that again........ hopefully.

First time stupidity I hope......

Oops?

Lucky lucky man! Cheers for shopping yourself not many would fess up :giggle: I would have said "you'll never guess what the wife did....."

Ill admit i done this the first week of owning the diesel lucky enough i only put 20 quid of petrol in then realised filled the rest with diesel and kept topping it up when i could changed the filter fired some diesel engine cleaner through it and never had a problem and most inportantly never had to drain the tank.

Could be worse...

My mate bought a new Fiat Grande Punto a few years ago. Signed the order form, payed the advance. He got a call a few days later, they made an error in his favour the pricing, it was 200€ or something. He said "I already signed the order, I'm not obliged to pay the difference, if I do, can you give me something in return?"

He got some goodies thrown in, including them delivering the car with a full tank. He was supposed to pick it up and come to my house, journey of 5 km's. I get a call on my way home, "can you come pick me up?"

You guessed it...salesrep filled it up with gasoline, it was a diesel...

He tried to return the car, but to no avail, he signed for delivery. They flushed the fuel system, and he has a letter from Fiat Europe stating that if the car develops engine problems related to the fuel issue, it's on Fiat.

The car now has 60.000km's, so far the aircon has had it, cruise control never worked (the garage is still waiting on the "software update from Fiat" on that one), and best of all, the Fiat logo on the tailgate has fallen off...

Your mate is unlucky then - I had a MKII Punto HGT Multijet - basically the same as the Grande apart from the bodyshell and in 67,000 miles NOT KM I had one fault - EGR valve. Nothing else, zero, zip, nada. Mos reliable car I've ever owned and it had a 150BHP remap and I drove it like I'd stolen it each and every day!

People that say Fiats are unreliable carp should own a VAG vehicle - my last VRS had two front disks replaced due to corrosion, DPF destroyed itself, boost hose blew off while overtaking - damn near killed me leaving me on the wrong side of the road with no power, wheel bearing collapsed, parking sensor died and there was something else quite serious but all were sorted under warranty.

Nothing (so far) on this one but it's early days!!! :giggle:

May I suggest to the OP that you purchase one of those annoying little electronic devices that warns you to use deisel every time you open the filler flap. I got one for my Dad and it saved him a couple of times until it because second nature.

Fair play for owning up but also fair play to Green Flag for turning it round in a couple of hours.

A relative of mine once half filled a Passat 1.9 TDi hire car with petrol. He realised what he'd done and without starting it immediately phoned the hire company who said "Don't worry, just drive it as normal but if it packs up phone us back and we'll send you another car" :o

It does slightly put me off ever owning an ex hire car...

Never managed to make this mistake..yet, touch wood! Im just fortunate that i only have the one car i suppose, not flitting backward and forwards from petrol to diesel.

It will most likely happen one day, i may not have blonde but i sure do act like one at times! :)

Ooops!

Saw a newish (08 plate) Audio A4 on the roundabout near a tescos petrol station the other day. He was stopped at the side trying to start it with white smoke pouring out the back. It was a diesel... my guess was he'd just been to the petrol station!

You're lucky. At least you realised!

<p>I thought that Green Flag were pretty good, even though I was stooopid. I was impressed with the turnaround speed. On a brighter note I managed to fill tank up today with the right stuff<img alt="" class="bbc_emoticon" src="http://www.briskoda.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0178-rock.gif" title="" />  24 mile commute saw the average fuel computer reading 54.7 mpg... even if not completely accurate thats petty impressive<img alt=":)" class="bbc_emoticon" src="http://www.briskoda.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0100-smile.gif" title=":)" /></p>

<p>As I said I wont be making that mistake twice.</p>

£350??

So let's say £60 worth of fuel (ish), that still works out at nearly £150 an hour... Really? I'm in the wrong job! ;)
