Its rusting already!!!

Featured Replies

Not happy today! Well, actually I'm ecstatic with the new suspension and my pikey mod, but I'm not happy with the two pictures below taken on the offside rear wheel arch! :thumbdwn:

Isn't there a 10 year anti-corrosion warranty? And if so, can someone enlighten me if this would be covered under it? There's no chip/stone damage to the arch, and the opposite number is rust free and paint is still perfect.

I felt behind the arch and there was obviously plenty of grime like on the nearside one, but its got rust on the inside edge of it, and this bobbling paintwork. Do I have any ammo to get this sorted by my dealer / Skoda UK? :(

It's a Skoda!

Honest.

Looking at it's position mate I think they would argue it was an untreated stone chip but it's deffo worth a try, depends really on the dealer. Maybe if at first you don't succeed try another.

Hmmm - could be.... :( Still, to think the thing is starting to rust after only four years is damn annoying...

The Skoda website says they have a 10 year anti-perforation warranty... So... what exactly does that mean... Bit ambiguous if you ask me. :thumbdwn:

A quick google around and found these examples -

Mazda Anti-Perforation Warranty

The anti-perforation warranty covers the rusting through from the inside of any bodywork structure or body panel, except the inside surfaces of the load carrying box, for six years regardless of mileage.

A 6 years, unlimited mileage anti-perforation warranty - Should any part of the bodywork of the vehicle be perforated by rust corrosion, the panels affected by the perforation will be repaired or replaced by any Jaguar Authorised Repairer, completely free of charge regardless of any change in vehicle ownership.

Note : The term 'perforation' means a hole that penetrates through the bodywork, caused by corrosion from the inside or underside, as a result of faulty manufacture or materials.

Hyundai

A six year anti-perforation warranty against perforation of the bodywork from the inside of the panel outwards.

They all seem to be saying the same thing - Inside Out

The other one they'll throw at you is did you have the annual bodywork inspection? I'm no expert but I got caught out with a fiat Punto I used to have. Apparently for the 6 yr (or whatever) warranty to be valid you had to have an annual paintwork inspection after the warranty expired. This was a separate exercise to an annual service for example which I assumed was good enough....

Does that make sense? Bloody stellas....

Jason, a copy of Skoda Auto's New Car Warranty is in the FAQ below:

http://www.briskoda.net/cms/BRISKODA_General_Guides/Purchasing_and_Imports/What_is_included_under_the_Skoda_New_Car_Warranty?/

The Warranty Certificate for New Cars in the back of the Service Schedule (service record) contains additional terms relating to body warranty.

As I read the terms you are only covered for perforation corrosion of the bodywork (ie rust holes appearing from the inside of panels) which is due to a defect in the corrosion protection applied to the body panels. Damage due to external factors (and external rust) is not covered.

So maybe if I can show them that its rusting from the inner edge of the wheelarch, between where the arch liner ends and the bottom part of the arch starts? :D

Will have to wait and see - At worst I'm looking at a scrape, build up, seal and repaint job. :(

Jason, another thing to check is that it hasn't had a new panel in it's lifetime.

Managed to claim on the warranty on my Felicia hatch were it had rusted from the inside on the seam - it met the terms and was covered with no problem - new hatch and respray at about 5 1/2 years. It was a perforation not an untreated chip.

AFAIK, VW group cars haven't needed these inspections to maintain the validity of the perforation warranty.

:) I thought that the bodywork was galvanized ? :finger:

Yeah, but if the stone chip goes through the zinc as well as the paint, it'll rust - simple as... :(

What about the option that perhaps its a less than perfect body repair by the previous owner/s.

Just because the paint may match, doesnt mean it hasnt been repaired.
