Top Gear under fire

Featured Replies

It's just a fun programme!

I watched chainsaw massacre and havn't had twitchy fingers.I enjoyed watching the old rover adverts with Russ Swift handbraking a car into a tight spot. But I haven't tried it.

So who actually is influenced by these visions on TV? Who are they worrying about exactly

Isn't it time that these sad old gits, who obviously don't know what the outside world actually looks like, stopped wasting everyones time and started doing something useful with their lives.

Sorry i'll get off my soapbox now!

How exactly can you choose where your taxes go? That would be nice, please let us all know, i'm sure selective taxation would be a great move :)

Who mentioned selective taxation - I didnt!

Indeed mate, indeed, you mangaged to say what I wanted to say in a lot less words......... :)

You said you choose to not use your taxes to pay for smokers in the NHS???

I simply asked how you acheived this as i would like to stop paying taxes to certain things i disagree with.

(I'm not a smoker by the way)

Not choose in the literal sense - if you were to read the whole thread you might understand where I was coming from!

Hellfire said it was his choice to smoke if he wanted to - therefore, using his preferred reasoning, it SHOULD be my choice not to fund his health care when he gets lung cancer!!

And there is a choice on taxation anyway, in a sense - its called voting. And if your preferred party doesnt get into power then at least you have used your vote to voice your own opinion.

Right i see, it SHOULD be your choice, i fully agree with that. As for voting making a differance, well good luck with your choice, i'm too cynical to vote anymore.

Too cynical to vote............I bet you've also moaned like fook at the current labour government...............LOL.

In my opinion, if you dont vote you cant complain about the government thats in power.

Happy voting

Ban Top Gear, more like BAN Briskoda!!! Having been on two track day outtings with various assembled people here I want to drive like a loon each and every day now that I know my car will stick around a motorway slip road bend at 80 (despite the advisory speed limit sign saying "max speed 40")!!!!!

 no problems :D

****!

oh and this is transport 2000 http://www.transport2000.org.uk/

Have you seen some of the munters on that website? Why are these pressure groups made up of former freakshow exhibits?

By the way' date=' for a laugh, try [url']www.transport2000.co.uk[/url] , it's a slightly different twist on the .org.uk version :D

The parody site is fabulous. And the genuine site is so far up its own **** I'm sure it can smell what it had for dinner yesterday. Jesus, what a bunch of pompous ****wits, feeling they're in a position to speak about what the "general public" want and "what's best for everyone"

Transport 1650's much more like it. They should all sod off and hand weave some wicker baskets, or maybe partake in a spot of morris dancing, from the look of their website that'd be much more up their street than watching Top Gear and they could avoid getting on everybody else's tits while they're at it :thumbdwn:

From the .co.uk site:

Bus lanes should be introduced on more roads: 99%

Paedophilia should be actively encouraged: 1%

:D

Not to mention the totatally irresponsible scenes of

  • conkers with cars (or was it caravans)[
  • skittles with cars and a high pressure air ram

Just imaging all the schoolchilden trying to copy them.....

My son thinks Top Gear is huge fun and the best thing out since they changed format I definately agree.

Strangely I dont feel the urge to drive into a tree or up a mountain - funny that.

If we must have Jeremy Clarkson on the television, let
A transport pressure group yesterday demanded the end of the popular BBC2 programme
Buzzword of the day at the moment seems to be that we are living in a "Nanny State" where the government is telling us exactly how to run our lives and what choices we must make to stay within social acceptability.

Sorry if the above is slightly off topic but I feel that "Transport 2000" are just another set of politically correct nancies stopping us all from excercising our freedom to watch good old cars!

Totally agree with you.

Sorry Hellfire' date=' im all for what your saying about the Nanny State, but smoking.................! Im afraid its also my right to not inhale your exhaled smoke. Its also my right to not have to fund the NHS in dealing with smoke related illnesses.

I agree with all the rest though

:D[/quote']

I don't think Hellfire was trying to promote smoking, rather that 'Nanny' had decided to take everything away and seems to be making all the decisions for us, instead of letting us make the decisions.

I was talking about the consumer choice aspect of Hellfire's arguement........its also my choice not to breathe in second hand smoke. Its also my choice to not fund their health care either from my taxes!

As for lost revenue from banning smoking - health care for smokers (its their right to smoke as long as its legal' date=' sure, but its also our right not to have to fund their health care when they start complaining about lung cancer and emphaziema); not to mention the money that is wasted on trying to develop suitable treatments for those with lung cancer. If we stopped wasting money on stupidly high salaries for public service executives; if we stopped wasting money on governemt initiatives like ID CARDS - whats that all about...........now that is real Nanny State politics.

Your right about the lack of government input. However, up here in Scotland a smoking ban in public places come into effect shortly - that'll put pay to them.........LOL!

I have a real issue about this (as you can probably tell.......... ). I just fail to understand how people can defend smoking when they are more than aware of its ill effects and impact on society as a whole.

What would also help is to stop funding car giants like Rover considering their Directors have taken millions from the company in order to secure their own pension whilst their employees are told the company pension is millions in debt - shocking! Sorry to all the Rover fans out their (if there is any left!)

No offence to Hellfire on this one - everyone is entitled to their opinion!

Anyway, thats enough of a rant........better get some work done [/quote']

OK - I am an ex-smoker (and proud of it - the ex bit, not the fact that I did smoke)

Out of interest, do you feel that the huge amount of tax on fags and baccy fails to cover the costs of health care? I have no figures, but just thought that if the taxes actually exceed expenditure, then (apart from second hand smoke - which I totally agree with you on) aren't we quids in?

Those suitable treatments that are being developed could be utilised on lung cancer victims that have never smoked in their lives and have not become ill due to smoking - don't think that these developments will be kept purely for smokers who become ill.

Have to totally agree with the executives and ID card issue...

On topic and FWIW, I think the complaint is a nonsense. Top Gear is essentially a programme evaluating new cars introduced to the market.

Transport2000 can lobby the Beeb to make an alternative programme, though Discovery Channel probably have a better handle on future technology / ecological options.

Why waste licence fee money on a programme with zilch audience rating and no chance of selling via networks abroad? And to suggest that dear Jeremy is an icon for boyracers defies all credibility IMO.

Is there a site where we can vote to "Save Top Gear"?

Mo

Just to clarify I was not condoning smoking, I was simply giving an example.
