weird engine noise

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Newbie here, not very mechanically minded,

I recently bought a fabia 1.2 HTP 2011 s hatch which has 13000 miles on it. it has a very strange whirling noise when in neutral and still present in lower gears and more so when i push down on the clutch. brought it back to dealership and they said its normal running engine noise but i am not to sure, it does dim if i open bonnet.

Any ideas? Much appreciated

Ps can u post sound files?

A slight diesely noise is characteristic for HTPs, I owned one for 3 years

The HTP engine, like others in the range can make some transmission noises at idle (probably what you are referring to) and when going slowly in low gears on neutral throttle. At idle, with the clutch down it changes the noise. If it was abnormal your dealer would have picked up on it. At 13k there shouldn't be any problems with that engine, they're bullet proof and fun to drive. You can post a sound file so we can all have a listen, but can't tell you how to do that. How much warranty have you got left?
