Another Jabba Convert....

Featured Replies

Doesn't the TC only work upto speeds of 35mph or soemthing like that?

Just had this notion in my head......

Had a look at Oettinger's torque curve. Here is the closest online version I could find: http://www.oettinger.de/bilder/9.gif (of a pre-2000 1.8T A3 going from 150 to 193 hp). The 210 hp programme (with maximums at 215) will just be higher everywhere along the curve.

Manny's chart looks reasonably typical of a 1.8T remap/rechip to me. The torque comes in slightly later compared to Oettinger's map and peaks out later too - I'd say there is a shift of about 200 (at low revs) to 400 rpm (at peak torque) to a higher rev area. I'd say this is the main reason for the higher hp compared to Oettinger. (Remember, same peak torque at a higher rpm equals more hp.)

You'd have to rev it up further to take advantage of it, though. Sounds like Manny is doing that just fine. :D

Also compare with Rob's (Fabpreza) "conservative" remap - I'd guess the peak torque is the same but at lower revs, which is exactly what Rob wanted. Now where's your chart when I need it, Rob? I know you posted it somewhere...

Been out for a further test drive this afternoon, and boy does this thing now shift.....:drive1:

The power delivery is smooth throughout the rev range, and there is an initial high boost as the accelarator hits the floor (I asked jabba to specifically map in a higher initial boost). I guess this accounts for the different torque curves.

Anyway I won't bother banging on about how good jabba is etc, as it's all been said before, and its all true....

Now where was I reading about brake upgrades.....;)

By the way, did I mention that my A4 2.5 Tdi Quattro had an Oettinger re-chip when I had it. That had nearly 400nm torque from 2100rpm (from memory)

I'll be there on Thursday so will make enquiries and see if theyv'e got any stickers to spare.

Maybe they will post one if you ask nicely.

Once started, I dont think modding ever stops just ask Jon:D , after the brakes you'll want to corner better so you'll want better suspension. Then once you feel that the jabba map is slow, then you'll want the IHI conversion and so on...

So are you in fact beating the TC there, Manny?

The ASR light on the dash certainly flashes on and off now quiet frequently, I wonder how long it will be till the bulb fails in the dash. The best bit is it does not matter what speed you are traveling 0kmh or 70kmh, it still does it. WIll be put to the test in a few weeks down on the nurburgring.

You didn't, but nice to know! Oo-ar, 400 Nm @ 2100 rpm. That's a serious thump!

And your plot confirms my memory - less all-out hp because of torque peak coming in much earlier compared to Manny, and is even higher than Manny's peak further up the rev range. The flat curve at the top is impressive, but the curve is hardly as flowing as Manny's. That's bang-in diesel torque you have there at 3000 rpm! But as you experienced that Audi 2.5 V6 TDI, I can see where your preference comes from...

I know what you mean, I definately have considered the exhaust, suspension, brakes already but they are unfortunately other calls on my cash, swmbo and son for one. I'll think I'll just enjoy what I have for now and then maybe later on start dabbling next year.....

Saying that i'm hoping to do a track day at donnington in august (kindly paid for by my boss - he's got a new M3 which he thinks is the danglies), so no doubt after that I'll be considering some extras....

just for your information, I asked for some stickers and they currently don't have any, must have given them all away to skoda owners!!

they should be ordering some new ones soon...

Well I've been Jabba and what a difference! RS pulls like a train now.

Exhaust went on easily and looks perfect; fills the cut out nicely and doesn't hang too low or too far out. Result! Not too loud and sounds bassy.

If you want something like a tuned Cossie sound get the H&S decat exhaust and the induction kit from Impossible Performance; I know I've been in Dave's car! Very intoxicating but unfortunately not for a family car.:(

It was very hot outside and the r/r bay hotter still. Mike was having trouble getting any decent figures. Before remap with exhaust was showing just 178bhp.

Best reamp result was 214bhp but a dissppointing 289Nm of torque. Mike said mine car was real slow to get going something I have mentioned here before and he had to put a a big over boost spike low down to get the turbo spinning quicker. He said apart from that the engine was fine and was fuelling etc correctly. He put the low figure down to a "bad" tankful of Optimax and the temperature and fully expects with cooler temps and better fuel a max figure of 220+bhp.

Figures however don't tell the whole picture; this car is stormin!

Pick-up from rest is transformed; this is how I expected it to be from the start and I was very quickly at 80mph without trying. Power delivery in general is very smooth.

I have detected a stutter around 3k rpm; this is either accelerating or coming off the throttle. Spoke to Mike this morning and he said this was due to the overboost. So this coming Tuesday morning I'm going up again for Mike to smooth it out abit. Hopefully he won't take too much of the low down overboost as the pull off is excellent. It's all about compromse Mike said.

Everyone is really friendly and knows their stuff.

Carole said that she'll be posting out stickers once they get a new batch in; she has a post it against the invoices who have had a remap but not received a sticker.

It was a good day; I got my RS remap and met up with Dave (DaveU) and sampled his Cossie sound alike. Just made a good car even better.:D

Cheers.

Adrian.

p.s will post pics when I'm back in the office.

p.p.s I guess I'll see you there on Tuesday then Jon.

Glad you were happy with Jabba's skilful approach. I'm also pleased that you posted Mike's comment above, as its nice for other people to hear that are currently (as I was once) 100% pro-Optimax. I'd stick BP SUL if I were you - its more consistent.
