Loose turbo pipes and oily deposits (pic)

Featured Replies

My friends fab VRS has nothing wrong with it but after inspection both ends of the turbo pipe which connects to the EGR (i think) were very loose and needed popping back on

After putting them back on it became apparent there had been oil dripping out at the EGR end

Is this normal ?

Should he replace the pipes and secure them better? would it be worthwhile cleaning egr ?

please advise

thanks

I have same issue, if anyone can give advice be really helpful as oil in mine really thick and i think its effecting performance.

Replace the egr valve guys

just replace the seal i have been doing this so much lately at work ive even seen that seal leak so much it goes all the way down the back of the engine all over the exhaust and its a simple and cheap job to replace! :)

could you give us the proper term for the seal or part number, I always look a wally when i speak to parts guys

"erm the seal thingy on the egr whatsit"

erm not to sure on the part number but dont worry you wont look like a wally saying that cos thats what most people say! of you could just go in and say "can i have the seal for the boost pipe that goes into the egr valve" <-- much easier

These joints only seal up properly under boost load, they will leak when the engine is off.

Just to bump this back up my car has had oily boost pipe joints for ages.

I was with my cousin when everything apart on saturday and he explained that joins are essentially sh*te.

The seals do their best but as BigW says they only really seal properly when under load so they do seep as standard.

On all newer cars they've switched to better metal jubilee clopped joints to stop it happening (or something it was almost a week ago!)

Might be worth cleaning out the EGR though, wiping down and the joints and surrounding areas and keeping a close eye on exactly how much is escaping and from where.

On Saturday my EGR (and i quote) "p1ssed oil out everywhere so i've bought a new one and will get new seals and gaskets just incase
