New northern mk1 vRS owner saying Hi.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Just thought I'd post a quick hello, as today I've become the proud owner of a 2004 mk1 Octavia vRS in silver.

Bluevrs2 was kind enough to take me for the viewing and test drive, despite us never having met before and only exchanging a few PM's on here yesterday! I must say, that's an excellent start to my Briskoda membership and I hope the rest of the community are even half as friendly and helpful :hi: Thanks a million again mate for your advice and the lift.

So a little about me, not far off 40, couple of kids, from Bradford. Oh and a mint Octavia vRS! Yay. Roll on Wednesday when I can pick it up. Had all sorts of things since my youth, Manta, mkII Escorts, Fiat 131 SuperMirafiori, Lancia Delta HF, 309GTI, 306 GTI-6 and a couple of S13 200SX's. Then had a few quiet years of "sensible" car ownership since the kids came along, but I thought it about time I had a new toy.

Anyways, will hopefully get to meet a few of you at the northern meets that bluevrs2 organises.

Bye for now!

Nath.

Hello again and welcome, :giggle: what did the Mrs say after I had gone?

what did the Mrs say after I had gone?

Doesn't this forum sensor swear words? :giggle: Just kidding, she's just happy I've finally got something so I can now stop trying to justify things to her! Now, so long as it keeps running and doesn't cost me too much in fuel, you will be allowed round again!

Welcome Nath,

Hope you are enjoying the octy.

I had one a while back and loved it. If you want any advice on some tasteful mods just let me know. I did a few things enginewise to mine and loved the power gains.

Sorry

Hello to blue vrs too.

Btw any of you here that did the vw festival in leeds. We all met at the services on m62 and convoyed to leeds, we had the vrs stand with our motors on show? Anyone remember. Was Chris in Brighouse that orgsnised it I think??

welcome to briskoda

\o/ Needs polish, wax and maybe some subtle Briskoda stickers

Get some little ones in the rear quarters . Used to be some about a bit back

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome to Briskoda.

Lovely looking car. :)

Welcome Nathan..... I am 40 in July, so also "on the edge of the abyss"..... !! ........ and I also have 2 young kids, and I also just recently done some "justification work" with the wife (I call it 'man maths') in order to change from a TDI to a VRS 1.8T.

Just one tip, the VRS in standard form is great off the mark, but feels a little underpowered in the mid-range ............ do some more 'justifying' with the wife and get a Remap. I'm 2 weeks into VRS ownership and got mind remapped 3 days ago and it is absolutely transformational in this car........... and "it doesn't affect fuel economy" ....... :)

Welcome to best car forum on the 'net. ;)

Hi longyear

Which map did you get on yours?

Hi longyear

Which map did you get on yours?

From here (via a dealer) :-

http://www.eliteremaps.com/

It is a pretty peaky map ........... obscene power in all gears when the boost comes in, but I'm worried my turbo and/or clutch may not last long!

Welcome Nathan.....

Nathan & Longyear - I Love the 40 and Justification to the missus, Must be a nothern thing. We should have a masterclass :)

(Past 40, recently negotiated mod for car, but i really need to work on my skills to justify a car change!)

Welcome

Good choice of motor

heh heh ....... in my experience a 'car change' requires some very advanced 'man maths' (almost NVQ level :)).... and is best achieved having stored up at least 3 months worth of 'brownie points'. Alternatively, a bunch of flowers has been known to work.:)

Haha to the car change thing. Just dont tell them you want to change and just do it haha

Re remap i had a revo one on my octy and it was brilliant. Have you opted for a filter upgrade?

Treks more than a bunch of flowers with wor lass mate.

Think it's gonna cost a new dining room and bedroom at least, so that'll set me back months and months :(

Hey all, thanks for the replies!

Sadly, I've decided to leave the car at the garage now.... to have the timing belt kit and waterpump changed

It's done 57k and is in excellent condition (or bluevrs2 would never have allowed me to buy it I fear!) but there is no record of it ever having a timing belt done in the history. So I thought it prudent to do the lot before I picked it up.

Regards the standard power, I know what you mean. My other car is a Civic Type S, the cheese wedge petrol 5 door one, which has 160bhp and the Octy didn'f feel that much faster, but is so much more driveable due to the lower down torque. I'm afraid the vRS will be staying standard though, as I've only had the one car for 7 years now, so only one set of no claims, which is on the Civic. Thankfully my current insurer will mirror that no claims onto the Octy, saving me a fortune, but they will not touch modified cars.

So if I wanted to remap it, I'd need to go elsewhere and start again with no NCB. That's going to be painful, to say the least, so not an option right now.

As for the man maths, I agreed to buy the wife a new lens for her camera as "it doesn't come with one". Needless to say, I was not clued up as to how much an F2.8 LGlass lens was about to set me back!

Can't wait for Friday now to go an finally get it! Once it's been relentlessly polished, I'll get some pics up!

Nath.

Nice sounding motor

If you ask Alan nicely I'm sure he'll wash it for you, at least 4 times a day and twice at night

He's already suggested I bring it round so he can get his hands on it with the machine buffer! And I've inherited his old (almost brand new!) center caps

Hi mate, no, I've not changed the filter yet, but I was considering a K&N Panel Filter... did you upgrade your filter in your REVO'd car and was it worth it?

@NathanF1; nothing wrong with keeping it standard :) .... if I were buying, I would always look more favourably on a non-remapped car, in fact my VRS (which I bought 2 weeks ago tomorrow) was advertised as "unabused, not remapped or otherwise 'improved', completely standard with FSH", and that line was the selling point for me. :)

Yeah, right now it looks like a very well maintained, totally standard car, so there is no harm in keeping it that way.

I have loads of fun in the Civic, so I'm sure the vRS will keep me happy for a while yet. Is it Friday yet? Can I go collect it now? No? Now? When then? I want it! :@

Hi mate

I did ye. I Normally preferred the panel option too but i took a gamble on a carbonio induction kit from awesome in manchester and i have to say even for the money i did notice the difference even pre remap . It went way down beneath the engine to get the cold air from the front of the car and it produced a nice throaty noise too.

I suppose its down to personal preference but i did like how it performed and sounded from it. Def gained as opposed to losing performance.
