Touch Up Paint?

Featured Replies

Whilst washing my Yeti for the first time the other day I noticed the previous owner had managed to take some of the paint off the top of the door, and to prevent rust from taking over, I was wondering where I could get a touch-up paint kit from?

It's Aqua Blue, so if it's something I can get from Halfrauds, with the right paint code I'll do that.

Any suggestions?

You should buy a touch up paint kit from your local Skoda dealer. It is a two part system with built in brushes, the first part is the colour and the second a clear top coat. Colour match is perfect although you might want to use a smaller artists paintbrush to get the best application and finish.

Cheers - will try to source some later today.

I bought mine ,via the post, from Allams.

They're one of the site sponsors and give a 10% discount.

Find the clear coat to much like treacle to apply. Similar with the Candy White and Pacific Blue which come mixed in only one pot. even with a fine brush still leaves a mess.

Did you warm the pot before applying the paint? I found that if the paint is warm then it is thinner and goes on much better.

May I ask how you warm the pot?

Stick on top of a radiator.

Put it in a cup of warm water.

Have you noticed how good I've been Graham ... no jokes about 'touching up'?

I did wonder when I posted, whether someone daft would comment about the term "touch up". I was right ;)

No I didn't! Tell them Graham!

As has been said already, warming the pot/pen helps the paint be less gloopy.  Don't try and use the brush that comes with the paint as these are always too big/thick.  Best results are from using a cocktail stick or similar.  You might need to add paint 2-3 times due to the tiny quantities that this method adds but the end result is paint in the chip rather than blobbed on and around the chip.

Someone suggested mixing the paint with the lacquer, if I remember correctly.

Looking for Jungle Green (just in case!).  Is Chipex really as quick and effective as their video suggests?

I've heard mixed reviews and a thumbs down from those in the trade.

Chipex in my opinion is not worth the money. I tried it on my previous car and to say the least was not impressed. The video on You tube that they have posted regarding work on an old 3 series BMW makes it look easy, but having followed it to the letter my attempts did not achieve the same results.

Thanks guys - so any recommendations for Jungle Green touch-up paint, please?

Thanks for the advice Manxskoda. I think I'll give it a miss after all and follow the other posted tips. Oh yes.... Just remembered still awaiting delivery so no stone chips yet!
