Change of OIl and oil filter

Featured Replies

Hi,

My car has started showing a text for OIL service. Can any one tell me how to remove old oil and where is oil filter located.

I have skoda octavia mk1 1999 model. It is a petrol car.

Farooq, you need to go underneath the car, carefully (whilst its jacked up and supported) or on ramps (even better) undo the sump nut on the bottom of the sump (carefully) do not round this off or thread it on re-entry, then allow to drain

Then remove the filter, this is to the front of the engine, but behind the rad, infront of the block, this will undo with the right tool. Let all the remaining oil drain into a tray for half an hour or so, then dispose of properly (at a council waste facility)

If you are unsure, it might be an idea to pay a mechanic to do it..

Yup garage time

I always run engine flush through mine before draining the sump to try and get most of the crap out! :)

you are more ocd than me.... i dont even bother with that jase, do you do it everytime? lol

+1

Old habits die hard from Ford Puma 1.7 VCT ownership, where e/flush was highly recommended. Some say it's a waste but I just like the thought of more old oil and crap coming out, before the new syrup goes in :)

Thanks dudes. I just noticed that since 20000 km this car was not serviced so i m going to Garage. Expensive decision though ;(

no problems

so how many kms are on the car now?

I change my oil and filter every 5k and have never used engine flush,

I bought my last volvo with 60k on clock and did oil and filter every 6k and when i did headgasket at 136k inside engine was spotless

Did this myself recently, the sump plug was easy (not a drop spilt), but despite being careful I got in a bit of a mess when unscrewing the oil filter as it's at an angle and so is still full of oil when you try unscrewing it. (This is on a VRS by the way).
