Hello from North Yorkshire

Featured Replies

Hello from North Yorkshire. My first Skoda was a secondhand MB 1000 bought in the early 70s. Not long after getting it a loud whine from the rear suggested wear in the transmission. Investigation by the local dealer revealed more than this - the car was made up of two cars! It was quickly replaced by a new S100 in Copper Leaf for £999. This was folloed by an Aztec Gold coupe (a flop as it had a recurrent problem with the synchromesh) and was quickly replaced by an S1100. When the Estelle came out I bought one but never liked it and finally changed it for a new VW Polo. There followed 2 more Polos (ex-demos as new ones by now were too pricey). A secondhand Favorit saw a return to Skoda, followed by a new semi-auto Toyota Yaris. This was the worst car I ever owned as it had an intermittent problem of the gearbox baulking when changing down from 3rd to 4th, just the gears you used for overtaking! For the last four months' of my ownership it was in bits at their technical HQ. Very reluctantly, and at my insistance, they changed the gearbox and let me have it back so I could trade it in for a new auto A Class Merc. After seven not always perfect years with this, in late November 2010, I ordered a Fabia DSG Elegance estate, which I collected in late June 2011. So far, with 10,000 plus on the clock, I've been very pleased with it, although I have one question wbich I will raise elsewhere on this site.
