Weird Bulb Issue

Featured Replies

On Sunday morning I noticed that I when I switched on my lights in the Mk2 Fabia VRS I got a bulb warning on the dash. I checked the car and noticed that one of the rear number plate bulb had stopped working. I fancied getting some LED replacement so I got some of these:-

They arrived and I fitted them and was pleased with the results and the warning on the dash disappeared. On Monday I drove to work as normal with the side lights on and no errors. I left work in the evening and drove home with headlights on and half way through my journey the bulb warning light came back on. I had to stop off on the way home so got out and checked and the replacement number plate bulb had stopped working (same side as before). So switched off the engine came back to my car after 5 minutes and switched the car and headlights on again and the warning had disappered, I got out the car and the bulb had started working again.

The following day the bulb stopped working again and hasnt worked since but I have now noticed today that my offside DRL is doing funny things.... If I switch the car on the DRL's come on and work as normal. When I put the side or head lights on the offside DRL switches completely off and the nearside one dims as normal.

I am completely lost at the moment. I will try to replace the number plate bulb again tomorrow with a non LED to see what happens but I am not sure if the bright / dim DRL setup is two seperate sets of bulbs or whether the bulbs that are already lit just dim when you switch the lights on. If anyone has any advice on what steps I can take to resolve this it will be greatly appreciated.

The new number plate LED bulbs caused the issue. As soon as I took them out my DRL's started working as normal and non LED number plate bulbs appear to be working fine without causing any issuesf

Well thats a shame, you brought expensive led bulbs and they still failed to work correctly

The LED DRL's just dim for sidelights, there are no separate LED's...

Ive brought some 2£ specials of ebay (LED number plate bulbs) they all work fine all light on and working, but i get warning light on every time i turn lights on, i guess it doesnt like bargins.

I had some off of ebay which worked fine for weeks, then 1 bulb failed, so ended up getting a replacement, which works fine, no flickering and it is a canbus compatible bulb, but the error light still stayed on. I removed the replaced bulb for a standard one and the error light disappears.

I'm just assuming its another duff bulb, so I'm on the look out for some decent ones which will get rid of the check lamp as its getting annoying looking at it on every journey home. I was unsure if it was the bulb holder itself as it did throw a light warning up with the standard bulb put in once.

The strange thing is, is that I can drive a few miles of my journey with no warning lamp on with the sidelights on, then it comes on, which is why I thought it may have been the holder instead.

I found out the Problem was that i didnt have Canbus Bulbs so i have orders some and we will see if that helps

Just get error free ones they state that on the sale !

Yeah thats what ive done
