Potential new Octavia VRS Owner

Featured Replies

Hi all;

Looks like im going to px my 330cd convertible for a new Octavia VRS Estate if the the can hit the figures when next in the dealer on Wednesday. As unfortunatly while i love the current car its just not practically with now having a dog needing more practical car.

For the deals on PCP at the moment the VRS is head and shoulders above the rest! And imo its a lot nicer car than more expensive brands. Especially if you want something a bit more sporty looking etc.

I was going to the order the following and just wanted to see if you think its worth it or possible try retro fitting after. i have had a Mk5 Golf GTI DSG with RNS sat nav fitted etc so kind of know what can be done. Any way car think of having:

Octavia VRS Estate:

Red (Save £490 on colour and tbh i like it)

Sunset glass as it looks good on estate and with dog keeps cooler

Bluetooth, not sure about this but at about £300 is it worth bothering trying to retro fit!? As cant see me getting it much cheaper!?

Heated seats, must for the other half! (WOMEN!?) lol

Rain Sensor, im lazy

Parking Sensors front and back, a must as other half will be driving and here car is a C2 so a bit of size difference.

Xenons (not sure? i would like them but not a must)

What do you think of the above!? I will not pay for sat nav as imo it will be cheaper to retro fit. Do you agree?

Anything else i missed you would recommend?

do they have auto lights as standard as forgot to ask? Also can you select colour of interior as i seen one with carbon effect trim which i like and another with silver. I want the carbon look on the red car.

Is the £80 Alacantara option worth it?

Thanks

Rhys

PS sorry for all the questions. This will be me first new car, only only so happened see that the deals are good and thought why not!?

head over to www.drivethedeal.co.uk and build your car before you go to the dealer.

That way you can change options as you wish and see the final DISCOUNTED PRICE

Print that out then take it in to the dealer and make them BEAT that price or walk away. This is what I did and I felt I got a real good deal.

I paid £17,950 for a tdi DSG hatch with met paint

Currently a OCTAVIA VRS diesel ESTATE with std paint and no options comes in at £17,705 (dealer should do better than this), you can also play with finance options by clicking "finance this car" and go in to your dealer armed!

I cannot answer all your questions.

Bluetooth can be retrofitted - probably about 5 hours work and you can get the kit for about £160

You don't mention if you are going for a DSG

Sunset glass is classy. Heated seats take too long to heat up to make much practical difference on a cold morning but work well once going.

Red is great colour.

Rain sensor - I have one and some people swear by them, I don't use it. It has a nice feature that will close the windows if you leave the car and it rainswhich is great unless you leave the dog inside - you can set it not to.

Xenons were expensive but are very impressive, I swear by them but you could go after-market - questionable on the legality front so only you will know where you stand on that.

Parking sensors are a no-brainer

Are you staying with black roof-rails? Silver ones are quite nice too.

There is an interior upgrade with red stitching around the seats, it would look really good on a red vRS.

No the vRS doesn't get auto lights as standard.

The Columbus sat nav is over-priced as a factory fit option. Go standard, buy a used Columbus, retrofit (loads of guides on here), sell the Bolero and recoup some of the cost.

Xenon's would be a must for me but opinion on here is divided.

Remember the spare wheel otherwise you get a can of tyre foam. Buying it as a factory option is cheaper than trying to source a wheel, tyre, jack, foam tray etc. afterwards.

The Xenons are the biggest no no for me and I absolutely love them.

£760 for what is essentially brighter lights is a joke, £50 for a decent set of aftermarket ones, a doddle to fit and gives you almost the same effect with £690 in your pocket

I know they aren't BI-XENON and the legality is still an issue (although in reality not much of one) but it is a huge amount of money.

The factory fit xenon's aren't bi-xenon either.

The auto lights are all part of the auto-dimming rear view mirror, an option that also includes the auto wipers. A worthwhile option IMHO.

I've got the sunset privacy glass option and to be honest I was disappointed with it; the difference between that and the standard tinted glass isn't significant enough. I've got a little un in the back and it doesn't cut out enough light for him - i'm still having to use black-out sunblinds. I ordered it without seeing an example, so that's where i went wrong. In hindsight I wouldn't have specced it and just gone for a tint by another company instead.

Hope that helps

The factory fit xenon's aren't bi-xenon either.

I stand corrected, I could have sworn somewhere I had seen that on the options list :-[

It does make the asking price even steeper though considering what you are getting for your money!

The Superb gets bi-xenon's (and may be the Yeti?).

I recently went from a 330ci to a Octy VRS CR DSG estate.

Love the car. Very similar performance with twice the economy. Five times the space.

I bought mine six months old so unfamiliar with options/prices.

How much is the sunset glass? It isn't quite dark enough IMO (my Dad, Superb, and my Mum, Fabia, both have it) and it can be tinted afterwards for ~£200.

I've just upgraded all my headlight bulbs for Phillips Extreme. They're not quite xenons, but they're a fraction of the cost.

Mine came with a Bolero and no bluetooth. Cost me £1100 to have a Pioneer sat nav/dvd/bluetooth/ipod etc unit fitted. I could recoup some of that by selling the Bolero.

The boot net (that goes across the floor) is a must. I've also added a Costco bootliner that fits great and only cost a tenner.

I have PDC all round and agree it's well worth it.

I will be adding tints and a rear view camera soon too :)

Personally, of it was my cash I'd probably scrap the bluetooth and front PDC and use the cash to pay for the xenons. Rear PDC is good but I really don't think it's worth it on the front......

mr_awol: How much extra is it? And how does that compare to patching up even a small touch?

Great Cheers for the response guys. After looking at sunset i might get the windows tinted a bit darker! is average price £200 to get it tinted? Its £192 at delaer at the moment!

Bluetooth is currently £334 so might just get it for all the messing around etc.

Silver Roof rails would be nice! but not sure £146 is worth it!?

Xpower, im now going away to check that site thanks!

Thanks Rhys

@thejames:

IIRC the back is about £250 whereas the front is more like £450. However my main reason is that it's a lot more difficult to see/judge distance at the rear than it is to tell where the bonnet is.

If money's no object then by all means they might come in handy once or twice a year if you want to squeeze into a really small space (although if you're leaving that little room front and rear you're probably just as likely to get hit by one of the adjacent cars trying to get out). They're largely unnecessary though - perhaps a luxury is more diplomatic, and in order of preference I'd spend money on the xenons first.

Add the fact that front park assist can be added later for a similar price to the option whereas xenons (in full OE 100% legal form) can't be, and it's an easy choice for me.....

As for the Bluetooth, it can either be retrofitted or a simple parrot kit installed - think O2 were doing them for about £75 not so long ago.

The Yeti does have bi-xenons on the Elegance or an option on the SE. I would prefer separate high and low beam like on the Octavia as the Yeti feels under lit on main beam. Dipped beam is brilliant and the bendy lights and cornering fogs are brilliant. I drive lots at night as well sometimes on not very well lit roads.

I personally would always spec xenons.

I have front and rear parking sensors and use the all the time. I also have Park Assist which I use a lot as well. It really depends where you drive and park. I drive and park around London all the time and the shorter length by 300 mm, the tighter turning circle and the parking sensors make it an ideal town car. With the sensors it makes parking soooo much easier in tight spaces.

I have the Columbus and like it. I know its shortcomings as this is the second one I have had in a Skoda. I use mine several times a day so can just about justify it. I hate other things on the dash/windscreen area that are non standard. Again that is a personal thing.

Xenons were a no brainer for me as we live in Scotland and do a lot of country road driving - there is no comparison between standard lights and xenon (IMHO, of course :) ). If you're more a town/motorway driver then there's probably less motivation to get them (there's no denying they are expensive).

Would strongly recommend getting a real spare tyre - the cost is not huge and those squirty can things are a nightmare (and only work with certain types of punctures).

I bought through DTD and found it a painless process - would highly recommend them,

hope this helps,

C.

I'm a big fan of the xenons. Other options are all good - needs a spare wheel to be added too IMO.

After people mentioned will get pare wheel too. Do you think silver roof bars will look good on red wagon?

Hope the dealer can do storming deal on Wednesdy lol.

Member on here is giving a 'new' spare wheel away. Don't know why his hand hasn't been bitten off yet. I wish I'd seen the offer before going and buying a new spare for mine. :'(

Don't forget that the Xenon's are cornering lights so they swivel up and down and left and right with the angle of the road and the angle of the steering wheel. You don't realise how good they are until you go back to a car without them!

Also i presume you are going DSG to get bluetooth as an option? Bluetooth is worth it as you get a proper antenna on the roof if your phone supports RSAP and you will get the multifunction steering wheel.

I also wouldn't have a car without auto wipers and lights now.

Heated seats are a little pointless on the VRS if you have fabric seats as the 'weave' of the seats prevents all the heat getting through.....this was the most disappointing option on my car.

I didn't spec the Columbus, i bought a second hand one for £400 and fitted it in about 15mins. It is literally plug and play and you can also get it coded with VCDS if you want navigation instructions on the maxidot.

Going onto maxidot, spec this if you aren't going for DSG, otherwise it is standard fitment with DSG.

Red is obviously the best colour!

I got my rears tinted for £150 so may be cheaper aftermarket but is it worth the saving?

I got mine from DriveTheDeal and thoroughly recommend them. I paid £18400 for mine in the spec below bar the columbus. I also got 2 year 0% finance through the dealer. Basically they put you in touch with a dealer so you get all the offers and finance deals as you would at your local dealer.

Been on Drive the deal and spec the car I want is £10800. Soo will see if dealer can beat.

The finance on driv the deal site is not that good though... Well compared to dealer ATM.

Don't worry about the finance. Lots of people are willing to do finance including the dealer where you pick your car up from. It is the cash value that counts.

Presumably there's a typo in the numbers there.....

Lol yeah stupid iPad! £20800.

Cool, well got figure and screen printed so will take to the dealer in the morning. Hope we can come to deal now! As back to beginning looking for estate otherwise lol. Never had a new car before so if I'm going to take the plunge it must be right one etc.

Haha that sounds more like it.

Dealer should get pretty close - I mentioned the DTD price to my local (Canterbury) dealer and he didn't sound too worried - just said "yeah that sounds about right" to the price I quoted......

I suppose the smaller dealers or those who dont shift a lot of skodas might not be able to match it though, in which case just try your next nearest dealer and if you still don't get near enough then just order straight off DTD.......
