What brake pads to get?

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone!

I have had 312mm brakes on my car for nearly 3 weeks but I am not as impressed with the upgrade as I thought I would be :/

I have EBC ultimax pads on the front and standard vrs pads on the rear.. My rear pads are starting to squeal so need to be changed and was thinking of getting either EBC green stuff, or possibly Red Stuff pads.. I have also had a look at mintex and ferodo pads but they are very pricey and I have been led to believe that they are more 200+bhp pads and track day pads..

I need to get my pads changed within the next week and looking to make a quick decision.. so far I am further swayed towards having either green stuff or red stuff pads all round..

Opinions pleaseeeeeeee :)

Ta :)

A few people on here are not keen on EBC pads, but I have Greenstuff and EBC discs all round and have no problems stopping. I would have thought if you were fitting larger 312mm discs then uprated pads would be a no-brainer. I wouldn't have fitted the standard Ultimax to the front, but I guess they came with the discs.

You are right, Redstuff is normally for heavier cars than the Furby and with 200bhp, although some members have fitted them to the car with have no problems. Yellow stuff pads are their Track day pads. So if your car is mapped (or you are planning to) I would consider Red-stuff, but I'm sure green will do.

If you don't go for EBC, then I'd suggest Mintex or Ferodo, However I'd avoid Ferodo DS2500 as they are track day only pads and technically legal for use on the road. Yellow-stuff can be legally used on the road.

Cheers for your opinion Jim!

I have had a decent look about on here in the past year of myself being a member and have found some less than happy reviews of EBC but those seem to be mainly from a 'Track Day' perspective.. which isn't my priority concern.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the Ultimax pads came with the brakes as a deal.

I do plan to remap to 180ish bhp within the next 3-6months and so am thinking for an extra £6 for each front set and rear set.. that surely the Red Stuff pads are worth it?

DS2500. That is all.

DS2500. That is all.

these are tracks pads though right? and are nearly double the price of red stuff pads..

these are tracks pads though right?

As the pads do not meet EC R90 Strictly speaking they are not road legal.

Hmm.. in that case I think I'll go with the Red Stuff pads.. also they are nearly half the price of the DS2500..

Cheers guys

Update to those who care :p

I went and bough Mintex m1144 as they have the best overall rep on here.. DS2500 are great but just thought I wouldn't need them and they take time to warm up..
