Rapid pics on Auto CZ and no masking that I can see

Just need DSG, a 1,8TSi or 2.0 petrol & a pair of decent CR diesels like the 140 & 170... Bluetooth connectivity + MDI & I'll be happy!

DSG, Bluetooth, MDI will all happen I am sure but no 1.8T, 2.0 or higher powered diesels. They will be saved for the Octavia in order to differentiate it from the Rapid.

Skoda seem to be quite proud of the Rapid from the comments I have read... And they should be too as for a budget car there are some very nice details on this car at first glance, particularly in the

All Skoda built Rapid 1.2TSI 105 would do for me :)

Big fan of the Skoda's baby TSI engine since getting our Fabia 1.2TSI 85 a couple of years back.

I wonder whether the Auto.cz pics were part of the controlled leak or really a "scoop"?

Pretty sure they are, other sites are starting to report that Skoda are releasing "teaser" sketches also ???? Not sure why, when clearly there are "undisguised" pictures on the web, including this one of the interior:

There are also other pictures of a red Rapid on the Nurburgring but these appear to be more disguised than the silver one above.

Absolutely, that would be good. I can see the 1.2TSIs and the 1.6TDIs going into it, perhaps an outside bet on the 1.4TSI? (the 122bhp one). With 6 speed gearboxes please :)

Yep, and on a homemade platform too :)

Skoda are also starting to manufacturer the DSG-7 gearboxes from the end of this year if you wanted an auto.

Think you're pretty much spot on there (including the 1.4TSI)

They could & can do a lot better than 122PS from a 1.4TSi. The Golf & Polo have more poke from a 1.4, so unless they want to catch a cold, they will need to consider 122PS as the base.

Would have thought the 105 1.2 and the 122 1.4 would be more than enough for most people but maybe we'll get a Rapid RS if we're lucky, or failing that maybe the 160 1.4?

Well a 1.4TSi with a 160PS engine would be much more acceptable than a weedy 1.2 petrol or 1.6TDi

It won't sell well if it has very leisurely 0-62 timings.

0-60 times are irrelevant now, its MPG and emmisions that count. In the reald world, the 1.6 tdi with 105bhp is ideal for the Rapid.... an inappropriate name I know, Estelle would have been better.

It's a combination of that initial kick off & the consumption figures that seem to be the winners for me, in fact I tend to look at both.

Personally I don't want something that's too slow away or has the lack of grunt that won't allow myself out of those awkward situations that I may accidentally find myself in & I need a bit of grunt to get myself out of.

I wouldn't look for anything much less that what I've got, I suppose I could accept a 140PS diesel, but nothing less.

The interior looks a bit bland.

Give it to Brimma, he'll bling it up. :giggle:

Agree with that, they should have saved Rapid for a coupe version if we get one.

The only proper interior photo we have seen so far was an undecorated test car so I'd reserve judgement until the proper launch photos.

What would you consider acceptable 0-62 times? Surely the main thing is flexibility and the TSIs will be much better at this than even old 1.6/1.8s.

Some thing around 7-8 secs, isn't unreasonable.

Would think 80% of cars on the road can't do that. I think the Rapid will sell well but it sounds like this probably won't be the car for you, it's being billed as a budget saloon, and they'll save the bigger engines for the Octavia to differentiate the two.

Sorry, but that is not an unreasonable time. VW's Golf 1,4s can do it in around that time, as can the diesels. It's not a sporty timing at all that's quite leisurely, compared to the sportier models.

Doesn't look as good as the concept with the raised suspension and smaller wheels. I would want the 1.2 htp 75bhp due to cost of the others.

The cheapest Golf with the 160BHP TSI costs £21,630 so it's not exactly basic.

But you're paying well over the odds for a VW & Audi. In those cases you're just paying for a name badge!

Yes, browsing a VW price list is quite an eye-opener!

I did read somewhere there would be "more than one version of the 1.4TSI" in the Rapid so here's hoping....

I caught up with what looked just like the new Rapid today.

As I got closer I realised it was an 8 year old Daewoo Nubira....looked just like it honest.

Joking or another one for specsavers?

Really can't tell anymore.

Has to be a joke, theres no such thing as an 8 year old Daewoo.... they will have fallen apart long before then. And yes I have plenty of inside knowledge of their crapness.... my Dad had a Nexia and then two Matiz after that. My neighbour has the Chevrolet badged Matiz that is 6 years old and breaks an awful lot!

I wonder if the vRS Rapid (If there is one) or Octavia get the new numbers associated with the GTI Mk7 that's coming out :-

In GTI spec, it brings an uprated 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, now producing 217bhp and 251lb ft.

251lb/ft? YESPLOX.
