Octavia 3 is ready says chief designer

Featured Replies

The Octavia 3 will be presented before the end of this year and go on sale early next year. Josef Kaban, the chief designer said at a press gathering in CZ this week:

"The new Octavia is finished, everything is ready. Now, it is in demanding testing. Octavia looks very sporty. I think you'll like it," he adds. "Every time I see it, I'm happy," he says with a smile.

Sounds good :)

  • Another excellent MQB platform article here: http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/vortex_news/article_3038.shtml This one is focused on the golf 7, but should still apply nicely.

  • I Would be very surprised to see a new Octavia VRS before 2014!

  • Quite right, it'll be ages before we see a vRS if it's only launching next year - I hadn't thought of this. Think I'll go got that FL vRS I want now then, and let the rest of you kind souls get a MK3

So late 2013 for the vRS as predicted by many :)

Considering the Rapid is launching before the Octavia MkIII I'm suprised we haven't seen more spy shots of the Octavia, especially considering how many pictures of the Rapid we've seen...

Skoda are very very good at keeping their new cars secret. I believe virtually all of the Rapid "spy" photos e.t.c. have been deliberate leaks, otherwise they wouldn't have been driving disguised test cars around the outskirts of Prague in broad daylight.

Interesting, as currently thinking of getting a new VRS Estate. Might it be worth trying to hold off!? Though i presume for the first year the "deals" they are doing now such as no VAT etc will not be on. So might aswell jump ship now and get one now!?

Rhys, I'm having the same thoughts, although I was thinking of a nearly new car, rather than brand new.

Still, the intro of the new model may have an impact on second hand prices?

Remember also that the new Octy will be bigger than the current one so if you don't want a bigger car I'd buy now!

According to the dealer new model diary, the Octavia Hatch is due in March, then April for the estate and the VRS in June.

How accurate I dont know, but that does at least give a time frame, all being well I will wait until the VRS has been out about 6 months before ordering, so around 18 months from now.

Hmm its a hard one, and i presume why Skoda are currently offering VAT free deals? I would also imgaine being a new "model" they will not offer any discoutns for sometime etc. So might push it out of price range... In which case could be worth just jumping and getting a new one now.

Beacause i will have PCP the resale value will be on that, so should not concern it tooo much...

ahhhhhhhhh bugger I may have to get this one :( or perhaps a Rapid VRS is there is such a thing. Anyone want a 2011 VRS with 6700 miles :D

If the new model is priced similar to the current ones but they drop the discount deals, that should keep the current nearly new prices on the higher side.

I guess the dealers will have to off load all the current demos and staff cars and replace with the new models so there may be enough to meet any demand off those that the new model is not suitable.

If there are good prices on the new one it is more likely to impact the prices as the dealers clear the cars.

Just bear in mind that the choice of engines and model choice is decreasing all of the time. NO 1,8TSi anymore, NO L&K either. So you'd be left with 140CR & small low powered petrol's unless you want to go for a vRS.

Late 2013 is a great time frame, gives me 18 months to save up a nice wad of cash to go buy one outright...... nom nom nom

Damn it.

I have just agreed a deal on my current one to be handed over to new owner end September. 4 weeks time I was ordering my new vRS,,, Should I hold off and buy a banger for 12 months and get the new vRS ?

Damn it.

IMO nope

You dont know what the new car will be like, might be a lemon.

When new the Mk 3 VRs will have no discount,

As a new one is due you should be able to hammer a good deal on the current model.

A banger may need repairs which eats into the percieved money saved & means a year of dull driving. If you are considering the banger I would not sell what you have & keep for another year, better the devil you know etc

If they were still offering the Scout I would upgrade now as the current model is such a good car

I'll have it If it's irish :)

Not so sure about this, with Ford launching the new Focus ST (and now with option of estate to tackle the vRS Combi) I suspect Skoda won't want to delay launch for a year, particularly as they don't operate the BMW policy of continuing sales of the previous versions in Touring and convertible form whilst launching a new model saloon.

It'll be Golf GTI before Skoda get's a vRS.........

indeed, Skoda are a little lower in the pecking order and will have no choice but to wait until Audi and VW get their hot stuff out first.

I would just love to see a proper official pic of what Octy III VRS will look like inside and out might set some cash aside for one would be nice to let it come out for a year see if any major issues then get one as the extended warranty draws to an end on the current one. There again I may be unemployed and not an option due to living off baked beans and soup sandwiches.

Do we know why they have dropped either?

I love the 1.8 in my L&K. Perfect engine for me!

Damn it.

I'd hold off ordering till end of the year incase the 3 is out next year.

If the Octavia 3 Vrs comes out it will leave 2013 models way cheaper so u might loose ur ass on it.

Don't understand why people want to tie up their hard earnt cash in a car which is a depreciating asset. I just do it on a PCP and treat it as an expense each month which the car is anyway even if you own outright as it loses value. Then you either spend your cash on something else or stick it in a high interest account.
