Octavia 3 is ready says chief designer

Featured Replies

It better not be mid 2015 for the new scout, the three year supply gap would kill their sales. I see you found those dates here: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autobild.de%2Fartikel%2Fvw-golf-vii-skoda-octavia-iii-vorschau-1782818.html

If I can't get a new octavia scout by the start of next winter (may) then I'll be buying a discovery 4 instead.

  • Another excellent MQB platform article here: http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/vortex_news/article_3038.shtml This one is focused on the golf 7, but should still apply nicely.

  • I Would be very surprised to see a new Octavia VRS before 2014!

  • Quite right, it'll be ages before we see a vRS if it's only launching next year - I hadn't thought of this. Think I'll go got that FL vRS I want now then, and let the rest of you kind souls get a MK3

Octavia 3 production from week 44 (dunno when that is exactly?), Combi from week 8, 2013.

Doubt we'll see either here in the UK until March though.

So the scout dies, that's ok you can just buy an all-road off Audi instead right?

Week 44 is w/c 22nd October.

I'm planning to order a new combi in sept, so it'll prob be one of the last mk2s..

There will be a new Scout. Don't know when though.

Hi I have just booked my vRS,it's a 2.O TDI,my dealer says the vehicle will be ready by Nov,is it worth waiting for the new vRS that is lined for next year or should I just this one..My dealer has given me loads of extras but I am not sure if this is to offload their vehicle before the new one comes out.I am also geting it tax free so what do you guys say.

I doubt there will be a new Vrs next year. The new octavia should launch next year with the Vrs to follow about a year later I would have thought

If that picture from the auto bild site is spot on, Im in. The car looks amazing in std form so i cant wait for the new vrs so i can order one. The icing on the cake would be if they fitted the 2.0 twin turbo diesel from the tranporter, bit more power and no lag, win win.

If an A4 allroad had enough boot-space, I'd have one out of the UK already.

My money is on new engines and new gearboxes to go with their new chassis. Both to make them all fit and to solve the legacy problems they have been working around for years (like the 350Nm torque limit on transverse gearboxes).

The few bits of info on the new A3 (same platform) is talking 150hp diesel, but no torque specs. It's looking increasingly like VAG are keeping all this under lock and key until Paris.

I'm thinking passat alltrack anyway, as I'd like something a little larger than the Scout, unless Skoda Oz rethinks its pricing strategy. A Scout Premium (admittedly with DSG, Leather, Xenons etc) is over 30k pounds, plus on road costs, with the similarly well specced alltrack expected to be around 37.

Shame about the electric hand-brake on the passats. I'm hoping the Octy 3 will still have a real lever.

If the leccy one is cheaper to make & lighter it could well happen. It seems to be the aim to get cars lighter & lighter to help mpg tests in the std car, thats an excuse widely used for getting rid of "proper" spare wheels as a std fit

I doubt very much if that was the whole reason for moving first to space-savers being standard to then being an option.

It'll be cost rather than weight,

Rather hope that latest picture is a good representation.

That looks very tasty indeed.

Mid-2013 you say?

Looks like the replacement for my current car might have arrived! /drool

  • 2 weeks later...

Skoda Octavia is planning the following: • sedan, mid-2013 • Combined, the middle of 2014 •

I was looking at the Octavia SE Plus 1.6 Diesel but I'm a bit put off with the replacement coming in next year, and maybe early next year at that

What do you reckon the article means in terms of sedan and combined?

Concenred about the price drop on a new model coming out so soon and it being visually dated, rejected the Mondeo for that reason

Surprised it's only a 5 speed and not 6 (think the Greenline is 6)

Also don't like the lack of a centre console to rest my elbow on and to store stuff in

Suspect that being a Skoda forum you'll all tell me to get it anyway ;)

At the moment it's 90% speculation. The paris motorshow should show us what at least one version looks like. From there hopefully specs will follow.

Too late for me to make a decision unfortunately

Wonder what they mean by 'combined'

Its a dodgy web translation I suspect - our friends the Germans call an estate a "combi".

The Octavia3 won't be at Paris (don't want to upstage the Golf) but will be presented in November. On sale in Europe early 2013, maybe here by March?

Some details have been released on Autocar's website

http://www.autocar.c...tails-announced

4.8m long though??? That's virtually Superb length isn't it?

One of the benefits of the currenty Octy for me is that it has a huge boot and half decent interior space in a not too big a footprint.

I think its a std marketing thing, each model gets a bit bigger / nicer & thus you offer your loyal following something to aspire to with each model, remember how small the original Golf & Fiesta were. Sadly times are changing & to get economy the one thing that has to be adressed is weight & the volume you are trying to push through the air. With other smaller models being pushed we may see Octy sales as having peaked & numbers registered may start to fall. With the prices Skoda are now charging they are starting to mix with more established brands & really have to offer something special in the design to do well in the marketplace. The plus may be some decent discounts after the initial sales to keep factory volumes up

Any word on when the new VRS version wil be released ? Is it still 2014 ?

I would imagine so it's usually about a year after launch we get the vrs

Perhaps (Octavia) it will be a larger version of the new Rapid - which is a very nicely styled car. They have gone for classic conservative styling for the Rapid - which will not date so rapidly as something more radical.

Thats a bummer. My car is up for renewal next September and would have been really interested in the VRS (if it was on my list that is).
