Featured Replies

My mate painted mt grill last year and it needs doing again altho am considering getting it carbon wrapped instead of painting it

You can produce a paint finish that won't chip ???

All those car manufacturers must be amateurs then.....

sent from my phone....

Cars, like anything else, are built to a budget. Do you honestly expect the likes of VW group to use the best of what is available? If so, I suspect you would'nt make a successful business owner.

Car paints were generally cellulose based for many years, which is soft, but easy to refinish, hence the reason it is used, since cars have this horrible tendency to get knocked about. Use a decent 2-pack poly for this, and you'll regret it if you have a ding. After cellulose came acrylic, which is fairly similar, but less prone to yellowing. Nowadays, they use water based crap due to environmental reasons.

And yes, I can do a superior job to most manufacturers in the right environment, thankyouverymuch...

Paint chips no matter the prep!

Plasti-dip takes a 10th of the time to do and doesnt chip whatsoever!!!

Did my other half vw badge 10k ago and its like new

Plasti dip doesn't chip because it is a rubberised paint and unable to chip. It does tear however.

Yeah if you tear it off which is another plus point

You dont like it... You peel it off :)

i wrapped mine with fablon.... No chips yet!

Plastidip looks the nuts and is very good with not chipping, but again, i aggree that with propa paints etc it will not chip. Jase that link you want is in my build thread matie. x x

all painted now, hopefully it will last a while, if not will try the plastidip. just need to get a new badge now but cant decide on a logo. found somewhere that does 4 80mm domed gel badges for £25 with any design. was toying with the idea of the briskoda logo as at least its 'relevant' to the car. otherwise will go with the old black and silver skoda logo. either way i will have 2 going spare

I can confirm that in NZ they like to leave loose stones all over their roads when they work on them

I don't know if it was coincidence, but when I was there it seemed like there were endless roadworks being done and the loose stones they spread everywhere certainly aren't bodywork friendly.

(sorry off topic but I had to respond :) )

They're always at it. They like to scrape the surface off several KM of road and make you drive through it off-road style.

Then they build it back of and surface with tar and gravel chippings.

I hate it!! It covers your car in tar splatters, causes chips and you end up with rocks glued to your suspension.

This is my street a couple of months ago after they re-did it.

Oh and these are the normal road surfaces of some of the lesser-used NZ state highways:

I'm on a roll now. One last thing:

South Island roads:

Yes the trains do still use this bridge:

@Rob

Yup, that all looks familiar.

There were a couple of smart comments about English roads being the same. I'm not gonna argue, but having driven in different parts of the world, I've never come across what I witnessed in NZ for a few weeks in Jan 2009. The little Corolla we hired was battered with loose stones and tar in a way I've never seen before, with some rough roads thrown in for good measure.

Loved the place, though. Amazing natural skylines with the oddest shaped hills that look like they were created by giant moles and of course, the unforgettable smell of Rotorua

Where were we? Ah yes, spraying grills...

  • 3 weeks later...

I just sprayed my one (rattle can tastick)
