Bolero - what's the current firmware?

Featured Replies

What does the current firmware officially fix? With this knowledge you'll be able to get the update to fix that problem (nudge nudge), oh and as a side issue fix the card problem too. ;) ;) ;)

  • So, I have good news . The car went to my dealer today. Firstly, I should say that they had never struck this issue before, but it's fair to say that Skodas are sold in small numbers and quite poss

  • Haven't tried an SD card yet. This topic prompts me to do so. Meanwhile, the poxy thing keeps re-tuning itself to some station called Heart which I don't want. As the car has to go in for a "Free"

I'm not exactly sure. The guy at Skoda UK was rattling on about display problems, but I can't demonstrate any problems with the display so I wouldn't get far with that angle either. Bloody frustrating it is! Car under warranty, has a problem, there is a fix that works, but they won't do it!

Not sure if this is still valid but I had my Bolero firmware updated last year. I initially got the same response from the dealer about not having an update available to fix SD Card problems. After some digging, it appears it is listed on the Skoda system as 'problems with Curve'. Have no idea what this actually means but after the update my SD Card now works as expected.

Also, my dealer did perform this under warranty so I would not expect you to pay for this if the problem is known to Skoda.

So what problem did you actually report to get them to do it?

It was a thread on here I had read where someone was having a similar issue. Luckily he got the update done at the other branch of the dealership I visited. I asked them to speak with the other branch. I then got a phone call later in the day to say the firmware had been updated. When I picked up the car they then advised on this 'Curve' issue.

Might be worth ringing Progress Skoda in Letchworth to get some more information. It seems they are one of the more helpful Dealer's when it comes to this issue.

Don't forget that to get the bolero to shuffle how you would expect, you need one track not in a folder to select mix. I spent a good couple of hours yesterday sorting the folder structure as iTunes goes a little nuts with it. Result :) I am now able to view all my music

I went to Rainworth today as pre-booked a week ago, to get my Bolero looked at for slow SD access. My car is under warranty, and knowing there is a fix and that they've done it before I expected it all to be sorted no problem.

The service guy there told me he had never heard of this problem, but I explained that many people on here have has the same issue, told him what the fix is, and that I know they have done the job before for at least one person on here, and told another dealer what to do.

After about a 40 minute wait the guy comes and gets me, and tells me that the computer says there are no updates for my car when scanned, so they can't do it under warranty. However if I want them to manually force the update to the version 54 firmware it needs, it will cost me £56. He also tried to tell it's because I'm using a 32GB card and that I should only be using a 16GB card which would work fine. This was despite me telling him that previously tried 2 and 4GB cards perform exactly the same.

I will not be returning to Rainworth.

So they say there aren't any updates so they can't do it, but they do have an update which they'll do it you give them £50.

Did you buy the car from them? If so I'd have tried your salesman or the dealer principal before SUK as they should be able to toddle down the showroom and tell the jobs worth on the service desk to waive the fee. Failing that, if a service is due then I'd ask that (or preferably another) dealer if they'll do the update for free if done alongside the service.

SUK are a last resort in my eyes because they have a 2/2 record for being absolutely useless in my experience whereas I have good experience with dealers. Adamsons of deal were always genuinely as helpful as they could be and jewsons of Oxford - well they were selling me the car so of course they were good. I can't comment for their service once they've actually got your cash but my gut feel is they'd be good.

You don't have to demonstrate the problems. They're 'intermittent' ;)

There's a problem, you tell them you are experiencing it, they have a known fix. Proof shouldn't come into it, given they the fix doesn't actually 'cost' them anything.

I can't remember if it was skoda, Peugeot, or both, but certainly I remember one manufacturer didnt pay the dealer for warranty work if no parts were needed. As soon as they had to replace a part, the labour became claim able in full. I suspect that may be the problem - the dealer just doesn't want to do it for free.

As the discussion shows JB, I'd just goto another dealer!

As much as I admit that isn't really the answer, and all dealers should provide the same level and quality of service, I think we all live in the real world :)

Thanks for the input guys. I'll have to try my luck at another dealer . Since the warranty is up on Monday I think I'm going to struggle to get it done now.

Persevere :)

Where are you based? Perhaps we could recommend you some more helpful and useful dealerships...

I'm near Sheffield. My nearest dealers are Rainworth's sister branch Bickertons in Sheffield, and Hayselden in Doncaster, and Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield.

How can it be updated? I have vcds can I do it myself?

No, not possible. Needs to be done at a dealer and the firmware is then downloaded from a central location, as I understand it.

Thanks

So what was the official "curve" fault that Skoda need to hear about to initiate them updating the firmware??

Some rear parking sensor display fault?

The advice to get the software version information on the Bolero is to hold the setup button for 30 seconds.

To come out of screen to normal mode do you hold button again for 30 seconds or just switch off or what??

Just press the mode you were in, ie media and it goes back to it

Holding 'setup' down brings up 'radio service' and holding it again doesn't bring up firmware screen that I can see......what am I doing

wrong?

Just had the firmware upgraded from 0053 to 0054 on my 156F (I think) Bolero for £39 at All Electric Kings Heath Skoda.

Result! 32 GB SD card that used to take about 3 minutes to scan now reads in very quickly, and going up and down levels in the folder list is pretty much instant.

hmmm, I guess this can only done by Skoda then

Correct. Unless someone can get hold of the update files.

That's not too bad from the dealer though, labour wise - although the actual time spent by a technician physically doing something on the car is probably about 10 mins! Time to start the process going, then check it's completed successfully.

There was no messing around with "it's not recommended / doesn't exist" etc., and they also replaced one of the rear indicator bulbs which was apparently the wrong type for free.

Not bad going. If I'm passing Brum I should pop in for a Bolero update :D

My Octavia vRS (bought 3 months ago when it was 15 months old) came with a written promise from the dealer that all software updates would be free for the time I owned the car.  Will check the software release in my Bolero and than, if necessary, put their promise to the test.
