Hi

The warning light on the dashboard for the glowplugs and/or the brake lights (yellow coil shape) has been flashing since yesterday. I popped in to Kwik Fit on the way home once I noticed it flashing but they just said its something to do with the ignition plugs not getting warm on start up and nothing to be worried too much about but to bring it back if the light remains on.

After reading some of the posts on this website I now know that its actually the brake lights that are not working as all of them are off so I went back to Kwik Fit today hoping that they would simply change the bulbs (not too expensive to fix) but they said that as all of the lights are not working the problem could be more than just the bulbs and suggested that I contact an Auto Electrician to have a look but I thought I would check on here first to see if I have been given the right advice...?

Kwik fit are hardly well known for their expertise in anything except

selling tyres to mugs.

You sound like you need a brake light switch renewal.

Find a VAG independent garage near you and they will be able to

change it in well under an hour. Auto electricians are notoriously

expensive in my experience. Quite a common fault and I'd bet they've

done one before.

If you're handy with a spanner then fit it yourself, don't think it's a pricey part.

I see you're in Gidea Park. My last house was in Harold Hill ;)

Lived in the area for 35 years.

I recommend my old VAG indy over in Woodford.

Westside Motors.

If you go down there, tell the gaffer (Steve) or Chris that Mr Styles sent you and

you'll be well looked after. Chris the top mechanic down there is a

really helpful guy. Tell them I sent my regards from Bristol.

Hello,

Thanks for all your help. I need the Chasssis number to give the mechanic at Western Motors (Thanks grr666 ;) ) but not sure where to find it...?

Its the brake sensor switch. If you get a light and go into the drivers footwell and look above the brake pedal you should see a little switch. if u turn it anti clockwise it will come out , try giving the contact a clean up , it might help for a bit then order one if needed , only 15 quid

Ish usually . Cheaper u doing it than a mechanic and easy to do.

Thats all it is.

is it written on a plate attached to the dashboard near where the tax disc would normally be? (visible from the outside)

I actually found it under the bonnet on something on the right hand side.

Hi just to let you all know my husband and I did try to look for the switch thing under the brake pedal but we couldnt it so we just took it to the garage in Woodford and they fixed it within half hour and only cost us £34.

Thanks to you all for your advice and help. My husband and I were very impressed with the speed of your responses and the advice given. Thanks again.

:rofl: :rofl: :happy::hi:

Sounds about right to be honest. £14 for part and must charge £40 an hour .

Glad its fixed.
