Ping on ignition?

Featured Replies

I'm now pretty sure it's turning the key too quickly, as others have mentioned. I've had no fault lights etc, but did it while leaving in a rush one day this week.

Mine pinged this morning. But it was the outside temperature warning minus.5 (only) but no snow - yet

Don't forget that you get a ping & a snowflake warning on the maxidot when the outside temperature drops below +4 degrees, This happens at startup, and if the temp drops whilst you are driving (though i must admit that I don't always seem to get the ping at startup!)

I'm trying this at the moment. I have to wait for the glow plug to go out, but a couple of seconds longer for another couple to go out, and then I start. Not heard the ping yet.

That said, it was never a case of always hearing it anyway... time will tell!

Since waiting for all the dash lights that do go out on ignition, to go out, I've not heard the ping nor seen the error warning. Fingers crossed, this may be the end of it. :)

Are we all sure it's not the wife's knicker elastic?

i thought that was more of a TWANG followed shortly by SLAP!!!! if you were lucky

hi bob, nice corner you have here, getting crowded though :giggle: :giggle:

Returning swiftly to the original reason for this topic, my Yeti is back from having both headlight control units changed under warranty to correct the "known problem" of one or both of the Bi-Xenons failing to come on at start-up (after dark of course).

With the new control units fitted, there is now a noticeable delay between turning the key to start the engine & the lights firing up - much longer than originally. So, I'm even more firmly of the opinion that my fault was caused by a pulse (probably a low voltage pulse) being picked up by the headlamp control units and effectively interfering with the canbus signal & telling one or other lamp not to illuminate. I'm guessing this would be caused by the drop in battery voltage as the starter motor kicked in. Now, it's as though they have built a delay into the control units so that they only react after the engine starts.

So in my non-expert mind, I still wonder if your error was being caused by a similar low voltage pulse DP, as the starter motor takes a fair old load as it initially engages.
