Miles per tank

Featured Replies

You add strain to the pumps and risk blocking the tank filter which in turn burns the in tank pump out, plus it's not good for the cat either ...

Can you add the "how" and "why" to that, please?

Modern fuel pumps tend to use the fuel around them for cooling. When the tank is bone dry there is no fuel so the pump runs hotter.

There should be no risk of blocking the filter. I had to remove the fuel pump from a 12 year old car a few months ago and the fuel tank was very clean.

My dot matrix thingy is about 10% out.....I'm averaging around 42 mpg (170 manual 4x4 Twindoor) but the dot matrix thingy says 46 mpg - only done about 5000 miles so far.

But who cares? It's such a fabulous drive and I cant drive everywhere at 55mph just to get a few extra mpg.............that's boooooring!

You don't empty the tank, there is obviously some fuel left.

The words pedantic pratt come to mind. Lots of people run their car from the brim until the light comes on. In essence using a full tank!
