Get someone with VCDS to change the country setting to Australia.

Quite a few threads on this forum with more detailed descriptions.

30mph = 48 kph

50 mph = 80 kph

Works for me.

Hi Suzyfluz

Have a look in the link for my car in my signature. It is well described what you have to do.

Then look in the VCDS & Diagnostics area at the list of VCDS owners and the contact them to see if they can help you.

I thought this can be changed via the Maxidot display, or have I got that confused with something else???

in a UK car it cannot be altered by Maxidot with the cluster set to UK, the reason for this is EU legislation which requires our cars to show both MPH and KMH. Since the speedo only has MPH on it, the KMH is displayed on the maxidot. To get around this you need to code the dashpod to another country that uses UK miles, and Australia is the one to go for. Once this is done you get the option remove the display and add a large MPH speedo on the maxidot.

It does however show it in a rather approximate way where the speed in figures is of more use in following limits. The speedo isn't clearly marked for the common UK limits as those responsible for the markings didn't think it would be useful.

Even the speed in figures shows it in a "rather approximate way" since the "round dial on the left" (NB, Captain Pedantic suggests dials are round by definition - surprised Graham let that piece of tautology slip by) and the readout in maxidot both read optimistically. When either says 30 mph you're actually only travelling at about 28mph, and in any event the speed cameras and the boys in blue will give you a couple of mph leeway (at least) because of the inaccuracy.

Round dial on the left in my car shows engine revolutions... allegedly!

Or the right one.......

Indeed ... but I did have a late night!

I had someone try this with the appropriate cable/software on mine and it wouldn't accept the Australia code.

Not come across this and I have done loads.

Are you sure they knew what they were doing?

Thanks guys for your input but to be honest I think I will just put up with it. It all sounds too confusing for me (easy as I'm a blonde no jokes please)

I will refrain from jokes about 'input' and blondes.

Very prudent....

Suzy, don't give in so easily!

This (along with many other VCDS tweaks) are really quick and simple for someone who knows what they are doing

Why do so many people seem to need TWO readouts in mph?

I wonder that every time this comes up!

When I got my B Class a couple of years ago, this had the same km/h display. At the time I poked around the menus a bit, realised I couldn't reconfigure it and left it. I guess I only wanted to do it because I figured I am in the UK where miles are king and km/h were largely irrelevant. I also realised the whole need to display both thing. Having now got the Yeti I have barely noticed the km/h thing and not bothered about thinking of changing it "because you can"; the dial read-out has been good enough for me on both cars, regardless of whether or not the 30, 50 and 70 marks have numbers against them or not (I can work out that the mark between 20 and 40 is likely to be 30 or thereabouts :giggle: ).

You don't! But I must confess, that having a constant MPH digital read out directly in front of you, is better than having to keep looking at the speedo, especially in built up areas. Most manufacturers (Skoda included) do not indicate the "important" UK speeds (30/50/70) in actual figure format, but instead show 20/40/60/80 etc. so it is not always that easy to work out at a quick glance, if you are doing just over/under a speed limit. So given the choice, I would like to have a digital readout as well.

Quite agree :)

They don't...its just that many people don't need ANY readout in KPH.
