VRS New Prices

Featured Replies

I saw recent mention on here that the Vat-free offer was now on for the Vrs...but according to the Skoda website, not. Can anyone clarify?

yes, they are VAT free at the moment

Yes they are VAT free , ordered a new one on Saturday with a few options for just over £15k , should collect it next week as its already in the UK since it was ordered for dealer stock

I never looked at any advertising, I was in the dealership talking to the salesman... he was miffed because he said they are loosing money as the vRS doesn't need VAT free deal to sell... but they put it back on anyway....

enjoy your car rich :)

If they are VAT free the basic price would be £13575+700 otr charges = £14275?

The broadspeed deal is £15036,so the Skoda deal seems better.

They are using the Term 'VAT free'.

They are giving a discount to the customer to the equivalent of not paying VAT surely, they must be paying it. well covering what ever the discounts are.

Just bargain hard or take something that suits that might save you dosh but suits your taste if available without the wait.

(2 year old cars now are selling for £6- 7000 less than the RRP was on them if someone had paid that..)

I specced up a car the same as mine sits today on the Skoda Site and it came to £18,275,

£18,000 less 20% £14,400, i know thats not good maths but near enough.

£17500 - 20% = £14,000 plus £700 otr = £14,700

I bought it at 14 months old for less than £11,000 & its now only got 12,000 miles on it..

If it was as was then i doubt they would give £8,500 if i traded in with them against a new vRS

I got this deal on my Octy vRS, & they work it out as follows :-

Take base price of car & - 20%

Take base price of all options added together & -20%

Add the 2 prices left + otr base charge & this then gives you the base price of the car you want, you then add VAT back on this total & this will be your final price.

As a customer we cannot avoid VAT & this is really the only way it can be done.

I was told it was a discount off the OTR price which was the figure in the VAT column in the brochure/price list - but that was about February. Couldn't get a penny more off....

Discount equivalent to VAT is not the same as 20% off.

Not paying the VAT on £18,000 is actually £15,000, not £14,400

£18,000 is including the VAT, since VAT is 20%, 18,000 is therefore 1.2x the net price.

To work back to net price, divide by 1.2

18,000 / 1.2 = 15,000

Simples :)

Yes if you were doing VAT & it was 20%,

You take £15,000

&

add 20% = £18,000

You dont take off 20%.

Why i said it was not good maths, a simplification or the spur of a post.

Dealer dont charge VAT anyway they simply collect it for Revenue and Customs

I read the Skoda website as saying

Must be dealer dependant, maybe some need the sales more?

The VAT offer is on the Fabia vRS and DSG models.

To clarify the VAT saving, it is the VAT applied to the Recommended Basic Price

E.G - Fabia vRS Hatch - Basic - £13,575 (VAT applicable £2,715).

You then minus the VAT from the Recommended On The Road Price - £16,990

OTR Price includes delivery, first reg fee and first year tax.

Based on a standard vRS Hatch the customer would pay - £14,275, to spec it up add the price of the extras and bingo!

Hope that helps.

Thanks, you agree with me then because I said £14275!

Another question....are the options/extras " Vat free" as well?

...and another thought. If the "real " price of a Vrs is £14275, is it not strange that there are at least 10 used ones currently on Autotrader priced at £14k upwards?

Obviously some have options, but what about the old adage that a new car loses £2-3k as soon as it's out of the showroom and most options then add little to the second hand value?

I agree £14275 seems excellent value for new,but in that light I wouldn't want to be giving any more than £13k for a used one.

You'll always get people that can't be bothered waiting on a new car - happened to me for example! Sold my MKI vRS privately and didn't have the patience to wait several months for a new set of wheels.

It is fantastic value at that price.

The VAT offer only came back on the vRS at the start of this month, prior to that the car was 'full price'. With that you will find that there will be cars out there that are dearer than some new cars.

I'm not going to have long to wait , ordered a new on on Saturday its going to be ready on Friday 6 days later, its seems that there is unwanted new stock already in the uk :)

Just one more question...is there any warning when the "Vat-free" offer ends?

If I purchase I would, naturally, want to by at the best price, so I may need to bring forward the date that I previously had in mind to take advantage of this offer.

However, common sense says there must be a some marketing B/S here...the VAT thing represents a near £3k saving on what is a fairly cheap car,so it seems illogical to me that prices will revert to full list,i.e an equivalent discount may be available in any case...any thoughts?

Thought i would go and get a VAT Free price out of interest,

so used the chance to make other enquiries at a Skoda Dealership that does not know me.

So i went in a Skoda Dealership 12 hours ago enquiring at the price of a 20,000 2 year service on a vRS,

the muppet behind the desk that did not believe that the vRS only came in an Automatic but then conceded that it was 'Semi Automatic' and she was sure she had driven a manual, quoted £173 for a 'Waiting Service' 8.15 for 8.30am and expect to wait 2 hours..

Did i want a flush?

I said no i would not need a 'flush', the nice fresh oil they were taking out which would still be warm was enough of a flush!

Thats on a 2 year old car with less than the 14,000 miles that the Service Indicator says it needs a service at, or in 48 days.

(Asked what oil they use, she said '3.5 litres of Premium oil', & a new pollen filter,

Electronic check all around visually using a Hand Held Electronic Notebook, anything needing action on will be noted!!)

@ 3 years it needs the Brake Fluid changed , & at 4 years the Spark Plugs.

I asked about Warranties and she said it was 3 Years or 60,000 miles,

But 2 years Unlimited, which meant 2 years and as many miles over 60,000 as it had where applicable.

**(They will not work on any vehicles that are Modified or have any signs of having RE-maps or Performance upgrades as Warranty or Services but

do do Work on them on a Private Basis after discussion on requirements.)

THEN I WAS INTRODUCED TO A SALESMAN,

He was not prepared to say how long or when there might be an Automatic Citigo, but we could sit and look at that as we Specced it and made an order.

The Salesman then assured me that there was nor 'Vat Free' offer available against a new 'vRS'.

There is on a Octavia vRS

End of.

Where did i get that idea, we looked at the Website.

He suggested if i sold my vRS privately we could look at some sort of Discount on a new order.

I then sat in a white 3 Door Citigo.

No more room than a Picanto & if you think a vRS is plasticy, go sit in one of those Fisher Price toys.

Love my vRS but would not use a Skoda Dealership to check my tyre pressures without checking them right after my self.

wow. I'd avoid that dealership like the plague! when a customer knows way more than the staff, I wouldn't give them my car...

The VAT offer is on cars ordered up to and including 30th September (end of 3rd quarter).

With regards to the prices reverting back. If the VAT offer were to end in September then any cars affected would go back to full list price.

Just reviving this thread to ask a supplementary question...

Given the current "vat free" deal is there any more margin for negotiation on basic price or options?

...I don't really expect Lee, our friendly Skoda saleman, who has already replied to this thread, to answer this question...
