Featured Replies

after my recent purchase, and not much chance to drive it, i was wondering what to expect both around town and on a run.

What are you getting??? I imagine vrs similar???

Any experiences, actual calculations would be helpful rather than computer display

Thanks again

From what I've heard, around town can be as low as 28, and on a run you can gently push it up to 40s. The norm should be around 31-35..?

Although, with your talents, I'm sure you'd probably do better than my bloody diesel... :giggle:

i am a hyper miler at heart, my cousin would be happy with it if he got 28 around town

Your 45.4 is a terrible show yes, you know it has 4 other gears? all in the one box?

Yes, but I have to deal with Southampton (which has more traffic lights per square mile than any other city in Europe) and also I like to feel the raw power fairly frequently! :D

i see your 130 bhp and raise you 20.

  • Author

so all in stage 1 needed for 180 then.

ok i see your 5.25k rev limit and raise you 2k

Stage 1 is about 200, as I recall... the 150 and 180 apparently remap to the same power?!

You'll have to Jedi me with fuel saving skills!

ok help you i will. take all you are doing just now, and change all of it. :giggle:

Ooft, comp says 32 mpg I work it out at closer 28, but I do very short journeys and as I thought I had a boost leak I have been driving the very opposite to economical driving on the interests of science.

perfect a "local" hehe thanks mate, thats positive, i was told they were really bad, this is no worse than a 1.6 focus or something

In my 1.8t which is a vrs (cant see the figures being much different)

Parkers quotes 37mpg combined but this is complete nonsense!

On a run i'll get 36-40 mpg driving like my granny!

Around town i get 20-25mpg

My combined is sitting around 27/28mpg a whole 10mpg below the book figures! Totally crud

I managed 37.8 yesterday on a run to Cirencester.Only just bought the 1.8t 4x4 so will have to wait and see what the combined is.I try and keep the revs on or below 3000 but have been recently overtaken by a hearse. !!

I'm going from here in sunny Scotland :( to London on Wednesday so will get a better idea of what's achievable and post results here.

I get about 35 on A roads with a bit of overtaking , same at a steady 75 on the motorway. Around town well under 30 but I don't do much of that. The biggest thing I notice is if I enjoy it while it is cold it takes a lot to get the numbers back up, the 4 miles of dual carriageway a mile from home on the way to work can really mess it up! Mine is remapped but it wasn't much better before!

Thanks, this is really helping to build up a gauge of what to expect, dont tyax it til the 1st aug so will enjoy it then

My best so far from the 40 odd mile journey back from prept in May. Normal average around town is 28-30.

Sent from my phone, using my thumb.

See my fuelly link below (remapped 2002 1.8T 4x4 Octavia) - best around 35 mpg, average 28 mpg over ~8K miles in my ownership. I seem to recall the previous owner averaged around 30 mpg over 30K+ miles.

I've had 2 remapped Mk1 vRS Octavia's and the 4x4 seems to loose around 10% on MPG - extra weight?

Well if we're going with the pics i've still not seen anyone beat this in a VRS!

Stage 1 VRS. Just drive like you have no brakes. ;)

  • Author

Agreed, if you brake, your wasting fuel. Read the road and leave earlier. Positive figures eh?

  • Author

And to be honest the brakes are that poor my economy should be great

Well best I could get. ( 1.8t 4x4 estate) was 36.6 mpg on the comp anyway. This was 2 adults 2 kids and a boot crammed with stuff, sitting between 70-80 until misses got in to give me a rest, straight out from services upto a tonne in seconds, says she's not used to tge power :0( so would expect nearer 40 when driving normally without full load, and mental misus.

The 4x4 does have extra weight but more important is the drive train losses due to the transfer box, prop shaft, haldex and rear drive shafts. These mean you will never get as good as the VRS can manage unless you start modding.

When I first had mine I would rarely see the nice side of 30 and that even included 60-65 on motorway. But after fixing various boost/vac leaks, remap, LPG, S3 gearbox, 2.0 mk6 coil packs, bkr7e plugs, even with a full boot and the extra weight of the LPG and gearbox I regularly get 40 on long runs at 75-80 (even nicer that gets doubled up due to the lpg)

Well my cousin picked up his new car and drove it 540 miles home, i told him to expect 35-38mpg. He sat on 75-80mph all the way and got 36.7mpg.

He was quite happy.......... I would have been devastated but hey. Thanks for the input he was able to budget quite accurately

I dont do the drive miss daisy that much and saw on stg2+ average of 20-25mpg combined and very low 30's on motorway long run. This is a realistic amount imo

With the longer vrs gearing fitted I see a solid 5mpg more. and get an easy 30mpg most of the time now

Shame the super spec modded 4x4 is not for sale and on the ebay of doom site :( - company car replacement
