Stage1 and insurance

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting a map but not sure if current insurer are flexible (quotemehappy), don't want to ask the question as it can cause issues with records as this happened to me with a civic in the past. How much more did people pay per year when they upgraded

Ive just been robbed of £745 :(

Plus a happy extra £110 to pay in chunks :(

But thats stage 2 and everything declared

The only way is the ask. You could have been born the same day as your next door neighbour, work in the same place, doing the same job, both married, both no kids, your cars came off the production line back to back, both cars parked in a garage, and you'd still get a different quote than him!

Ok will ask them but I think as they are Aviva group they will say nope

Do a random made up quote on the website? (changing the names to protect the innocent)

Thats why i De-mapped mine when i had it :(

I think most mainstream insurers like Aviva, direct line etc will not insure a mapped car.

I did mine with Adrian Flux and they just charge you the percentage extra that you change the car. A 10% increase in power means a 10% increase in your policy. Simple. means my policy only went up by around 120 quid. I'm happy with that. That also included my allys and other mods too. Including air filter upgrade, bushes all lights etc. all covered in an accident.

Incidentally it ended up cheaper than having standard insurance with a mainstream company on my renewall. Win Win ! :)

Have a spare ecu with a standard map if you need to swap! lol

Good luck with that when you are being carted off in an ambulance after a serious RTA.

Specialist cars are better of (generally speaking ) with specialist insurers, Briskoda is affiliated with Greenlight, Flux, Chris Knott and our good selves, all of us cater for modified cars.

You need to check with your own insurers, what other people pay will not help you.

Was only joking, hence the 'lol' and ' '

No worries, the trouble is, some people would take that as acceptable advice.

Yup your insurance company is the only one that can say how much.

Mines covered free up to 210bhp as I didn't know if its been remapped when I brought it. Boost is standard so hasn't but won't cost me owt extra if I do remap it lol

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

lol,if you remap it and your insurance doesnt go up your already paying for a remaped car,so at the mo your wasting money?

Nope got the quote before I brought the car and told them that it might be remapped when I called to activate it, as its modified insurance anyway due to the front mount they called highway and they agreed to let them keep the same price weird but true lol

Had to pay an extra £13 after mapping mine and £25 admin charge halfway through policy, come renewal time it was an extra £18 happy days

so an insurance company will possibly check the ecu after an incident to see if it is modified or not?

If an inspecting engineer has cause for concern on ANY component fitted to the vehicle does not comply with policy conditions, he can seek authority to have the component removed and independantly proffesionally tested. If a casualty was involved and the policy holder refuses, then he can seek authority that a failure has been made to comply with the Road Traffic Act via the Police - in this case failure to disclose resulting technically in no isurance. I have seen this done many times in major accidents, and it is never pleasant.

thanks for the info kentphil.

Its a pleasure mate, all this stuff on here really comes down to good old fashioned common sense. Play it fair with no prior attempt to con anybody and the big companies will be fair with you. For every single case I have seen them come down and hammer a con merchant on, I have seen ten get the benefit of the doubt due to good old fashioned lack of understanding.

Fitting something not realising it should have been disclosed is seen as massively different to somebody fitting something, getting caught with it then carrying on in denial or worse still harming somebody or killing them. If you are not sure, ask a broker for general advice, they do it day long and have huge knowledge in this area for guidance.

Hope it helps

Adrian flux offer discounts the more mods you do as in their eyes that means you care about your car or so the man on the phone said to me and to be fair modified with Adrian Flux works out cheaper than say standard with Tesco.....

Just took out a policy with elephant,£350 fully comp all declared, was with Admiral but they wanted more for third party! :)

I found this with my Golf VR6, but standard Octavia vRS is much cheaper elsewhere than a with a remap at Flux.

YMMV

Arent Elephant and Admiral actually the same company?

Closest i've heard is an engineers saying they though a car was probably chipped but couldnt prove it, the guy had a list of other mods as long as your arm not - declared on a imprezza sti. think he got about £20 after they wer added to the policy lol.

I dont think they check bth unless u had other bits and bobs (intercollers/suspention etc) mostly just focus on the damage. Beside usually they just charge you retrospectively for having it.
