Those of you with DPFs removed...

Featured Replies

I liked the idea of having a diesel that didt smoke..you should see it now, i put my boot down this morning, caught my hand on the bumper and my hand was black! (this is with a maps aswell though)

This (and the insurance aspect) is the only thing that's putting me off having a DPF removal.

When I spoke to Shark they mentioned their DPF removal and stage 0 remap was 'smoke free' although they did say that as the vRS has 'straight-out' tail pipes it would be noticable in the headlights of a following car at night.

I don't want my vRS to be a smoker but on the other hand the DPF is doing my head in!

Mine only smokes as it has had a stage 2, the Zero maps will just kick out 'normal' amount of diesel smoke but im sorry its a diesel either like it or lump it! If you dont want smoke, buy a petrol. I on other hand like the smoke, it amuses me somewhat.

End of the day its not a legal requirement and it will still pass an MOT, if it still works fine then leave it, if its starting to clog up too often then take it off.

I have only read about PD170s, what about the CR170s, is there a difference

LUKE!!

Dont go to Shark

No visible smoke from mine with stage 0 map.

Thanks Nick.

I'm going to check with my insurers tomorrow.

I have a funny feeling that they might be funny about it as I've heard on here that Admiral are not particularly 'mod' happy.

Hi Guys

I see that Insurance has come up a few times in this thread relating to DPF Removal.

We are a specilast modified vehicle insurance company so if you struggle to get the DPF Removal or any other modification covered with your current insurance company we can definately help.

I Drive a modified VRS myself so understand the car and how mods will effect it.

We offer a discount to Briskoda Members and our policies are very competetive on modified cars.

If anyone would like a quote to see how competetive our modified policies are simply drop me a PM with your contact number and desired time so i can call you to run a quick quote.

Best Regards

I would highly recommend specialist insurers over the big generic players. The common sense approach to mods and general personal touch when dealing with them makes such a difference.

cI've used greenlight, for a number of years though they couldn't match on the octavia.

I like the fact the diesel smokes, kinda miss it from my fabia days! But having a clean bum is also nice.

If I do get my mapped I'll be thinking about this but can't say I've never noticed the regeneration cycle

I have averaged exactly 50mpg on the computer on a standard PD170 over the 3,000 miles that I've owned it for - the previous owner said mpg improved when the injectors were changed.

On a run, I've seen up to 58mpg, should be interesting to see what happens next week with a stage one and DPF delete from Shark.

I too have some running issues (but not major though) which I'm sure are DPF related.

I'm still tempted to get the DPF removed on my 2008 Leon FR (Wife's car) - The DPF is the main reason I bought a Petrol VRS, I hate the way it bogs down and every now and then feels hesitant and laggy....

I just need to find somewhere in Berks, or at least closer then Shark as it's too far to drive really...

I live in West Sussex!

Rang Admiral today, no issues from them by removing the DPF.

Will get it in writing though before the angle grinder comes out!

I'm with admiral - no problems with a dpf off and stage 1 (you have to declare the modified bhp increase as a %age - which is good compared to having to declare the torque increase :-) ).

I get another 10mpg since dpf off and stage 1, with no more light on/lumpy and hesitant performance. And, yes, I'd prefer it not to smoke out of the back but the diesel I'm not using is 'doing my my bit for the planet'.

Best thing I've done on the car - the performance truly staggers you and I wonder why I didn't get it done earlier.

I believe shark are expanding via dealers and have someone in Slough who's got their software now btw

You forgot to mention that your company is very postcode sensitive. The reply I got from your company was go to Adrian Flux as you wouldn't be competitive in my postcode area.

For about the 8th year running I have stayed with Chris Knott as they were by far the most competitive.

And, yes, I'd prefer it not to smoke out of the back but the diesel I'm not using is 'doing my my bit for the planet'.

How much does it smoke since the DPF removal?

How much does it smoke since the DPF removal?

Same as my Fabia i vrs - ie it's noticeable but given the PD engine wasn't designed to have a dpf, and it's unlikely (in my case) I put my foot down in any urban area, the soots coming out on the motorway anyway. But - as was when it was doing a regen, you can notice the smoke if you look backwards. Would I prefer no smoke? Yep. Would I sacrifice the increased mpg, responsiveness, power delivery, push in the back or not having to worry/**** about with the dpf light? Nope.

Besides higher performance maps, I have had the stage 0 shark map on my car and it's great. Economy up, feels nicer to drive. No hassles. G450 sensor (unreliable part) mapped out too as a bonus. Highly recommended.

Nick is that G450 the temp sensor in the turbo? 2 pin black if i remember rightly?

I had mine go and then 2 weeks later the new one went. Didnt realise it could be mapped out?

Should of also mentioned ive had the DPF removed on my car, only problem i had at first was the typical 'stutter' but it got so severe it was like someone stamping on the accelerator, letting off and putting it back on again, Rob @ shark said it was the worst he'd ever known. Thankfully after a map tweek it has been solved and to be fair mine does smoke a fair bit now but it doesnt bother me as at the end of the day ive now got a diesel with the cat/dpf removed.

Fuel wise i can get 600+ mile on motorway journeys, normally around mid 50's driving at 70mph

Davey - yeah, it's just after the turbo.

Oh after the turbo, mines the 1 in the turbo, wondering if I can get that mapped out, had 3 go now

Sorry Davey G450 is the pressure sensor.

Exhaust gas pressure sensor 1 G450

Signal application

Exhaust gas pressure sensor 1 measures the pressure

difference in the flow of exhaust gas before and after

the particulate filter. The signal from the exhaust gas

pressure sensor, the signal from the temperature

sender before and after particulate filter and the

signal from the air mass meter form an inseparable

unit during calculation of the level of carbon soot

deposit in the particulate filter

Think the temp sensor in (before) the turbo is G507.

Ahhh I'm confused now as to what number mine was, it may have been a G448. It was February when I last plugged it in to find the fault code so I'm not 100%. I need to get it plugged in again but I do know it was the sensor going into the turbo
