Alloy Spare Wheel?

Featured Replies

Hello,

My missus got her Fabia VRS around June Last year with the shiny (standard) Gigaro Alloys.

I took a look under the boot base and I was delighted with what I saw, or thought I saw; a full size spare alloy wheel. (SHINEY and NICE looking, just like an alloy)

The car has had its 10k service.

Recently she got a puncture and since I am working away from home she took it to kwik-fit to see if they could repair the tyre or swap it with the spare.

They could not repair the tyre. She called me to say they swapped it with the spare, a 15 inch steel!

I am fuming, I swear there was a full size alloy in there.

I know the standard spare is a 15inch steel at the moment, was it always?

Has anyone else had a full size spare alloy?

Basically before I go ballistic at someone I want to know if there is any way I could be wrong. Can the steel look a bit like an alloy under the boot base, could I have been mistaken?

Since I am away I don't even know what a 15 inch spare looks like, black or silver or painted.

If someone wants to post a picture of theirs in their boot to see if it jogs my memory that would be really kind.

Many thanks,

Matt

It should be a Shiny new Steel spare in the boot lying outside face down,

with a polystyrene centre facing you where the hub goes, containing the jack, tyre lever, security nut socket and plastic nut cap twizers.

Anything else would be unusual, certainly you would not expect a matching Alloy wheel as a the standard spare wheel.

PS & it is 15",

there is a Silver Webbing strap across the middle holding it down.

Thanks for your replies.

Not sure what I think I saw then. I thought they may have run out of spares and plonked in an alloy. I did check and remember grinning that we had an alloy and telling her about it; "you'll never guess what, its only a full alloy", or something like that. It was over 6 months ago so I am beginning to doubt myself. That's really confusing, and annoying when you doubt yourself. I would have wagered a ton on that as fact.

Just spoke to her again and she says its a 15 inch space saver.

Because I thought it was unusual I even said to her to check she still had her alloy after the 10k service. she didn't check.

I hate to think that someone has swapped out the spare at some point; but at the same time I hate to think I am losing my mind. So it's one or the other.

Cheers,

Matt

the spare tyre in there is or should be a 195/55/15 & 35H

A 205/40/17 tyre on a 7" wide rim would sit higher than the space so your floor cover would be sitting high.

I think you must have been mistaking & just seen the shiny new tyre that does not look that narrow when looked at in the Spare wheel well.

Thanks for the reply George.

I spoke to her again about this and she says that the alloy is in the spare well and the boot is flat, while she runs around on the spare until the morning.

I must have been mistaken all the same. perhaps it was a mirage.

Ah well, I might source a full alloy and plonk it in as a present at some point, they're not too badly priced from Skoda.

Cheers,

Matt
