I just sold a set of those wheels.  They really improve the feel of the car and the handling is so much better than with the heavy Skoda rims.

  • Track day successful. Didn't blow up or slide off. But got black flagged on the first outing for being too loud.

  • "Surely with that set up you get rubbish MPG" You'll be surprised when it's not on boost all the time.       In other, once I've got the body work/rusty bits sorted...

Lovely choice. All time classic wheel B)

  • Author

So I spent three hours getting home, after plonkers rubbernecking on the M23 brought it to a halt... I get home, had a quick dinner and set about putting the new wheels on.

Got them all on and as I'm putting the old wheels back around the garden, I find a pile of wheel weights. A LOT of wheel weights. Would appear they've not stuck to new wheels good enough and have just fallen off into one pile.

So all the new wheels came off again.

:wall:

FFS. Not going well for you is it?!

Had the TDs been newly refurbished or anything? Just wondering if they've been a bit quick to whack the weights on.

Onwards and upwards...

Just waiting for the next thing to go wrong!

The wheels had come back from Max Powder last week Thursday and had been 'curing' in the warmth of the conservatory over the weekend.

Well, they did look good whilst on the car... for all of ten minutes!

*Donk*

If you're wondering what the black on the arch lip is, started to remove surface rust on both arches and used black rust inhibitor for now.

Looking very nice, quite like this colour black goes really well with it too

Rust; have you had a look at Bilt Hamber products? Highly recommended.

I'd get some Hydrate 80 on that to convert and inhibit further rust. Then it gives you a solid base to further protect and then paint.

The td's look well, not as cool as the 5 spokes obviously ;)

Well the weight of all 20 layers of paint was slowing me down!

Okay it's been a while and its all been quiet on this front, so just a few things :

- Bought a new S212 hybrid turbo from TurboTechnics but not fitted yet. Waiting for a good day to do so, then its just swapping the gearbox over from the old engine (Which has a like new clutch in it, new clutch release bearing and also need to swap over the SMF as my DMF is making odd noises and feels like the clutch is slipping a tad) So a few things on that front. Once done, map it again.
- Snagged two new front wings which I'm waiting for, The rust is getting worse so I'm just going to replace them.

- Exhaust rattles a bit. I'm told the rear sub frame is very rusty and needs replacing in the future.

- Front spillter is now gone

- Looking to replace the coil overs as everything feels spongy no matter what damping setting I set them to

- Whiteline rear anti roll bar makes it fun for lift off over steering

- Lift off over steering on the M25 in the wet whilst trying to avoid a pleb in a crossover made for seat stains

- Whiteline front anti roll bar has been bought, awaiting fitting along with a few other goodies and bushings.

So busy busy busy...

Still pondering the idea of whilst replacing the rear sub frame, replace it with a 4x4 sub frame with diff and find a 4x4 6speed gear box...

But waiting for someone to tell me that both parts won't fit on my current set up!

What a interesting reading

great job on both cars

Not a lot to report.

- S212 hybrid back in.
- Single mass flywheel in.
- New clutch
- Remap from AngelTuning

- Anti lift kit
- Anti roll front bar

But had a question. Could hear some metal on metal clonking from the front, so had a poke and found this bracket hanging about. (To the left of the picture, resting on the intercooler pipe work) It wasn't there before, but I can't see where it goes.
I can only guess it goes somewhere around the gearbox/starter motor, but I'm not able to have a good look at the moment until I reach home and bung it on the ramps.

That goes on the stud on the end of one of the starter motor bolts with a 13 mm nut.

I have some reason to believe not is all well currently, but wondered if someone could glance their eye over my VCDS reading for the injectors.

Basically:

Car starts drives fine. Warms up. Only when it gets warm does it smoke. But it only smokes when I've been sat at a light or junction or other reason to stop. As I pull away, there is a HUGE plume of smoke. It's hard to tell, But it looks grey. The black soot on the exhaust pipe says to me it's either fuel not burning, or oil. But I can't find any other evidence to suggest its oil.

It did smoke a bit BEFORE the map I will point out, but it seems to be getting worse lately.

No smoke as I'm driving or on boost. Not using oil as far as I can tell. Only when its warm, sat and pulling away from a stand still.

Any thoughts?

VCDS readings okay?

Still no where closer to working out why its smoking when hot.

Whilst I do have new injectors (Well, old ones, rebuilt and what not) I've not put them in as of yet.

New ball joints, New drive shafts, New oil and filled to the correct level, after the dealer overfilled it... Which lead me to believe that was the reason to the smoking. As its still very early days since the oil change and correct level, I can only guess its still burning off whats left in the pipe work. The oil catch can as been on for a while and already its quite full and indeed, very oily. Again, I guess this was due to being over filled.

Shall I wait a few days to see if the smoking stops? Or do I follow up with some time to change out the injectors for these new ones? Is there any way to tell once the old injectors are out, if they've been leaking oil into the bores?
If push comes to shove, I do have another S212 unit I could swap over to rule out the turbo seals... Which I dread.

It's a good thing I had another brand new S212 sat in a box then!

Either something has gone very wrong internally, or I'm just not having much luck. This turbo wasn't even 4 months ago in use...
But anyway, Had some time to swap over a few bits I had worked on before ages ago.

Slightly modified intake. Painted with heat resistant paint and removed the lump of metal on the right hand side of it, just above the EGR (Which is now removed) Unseen is the EGR cooler delete also.

Okay been a while BUT GOOD NEWS EVERYONE

photo5999204199180644583.thumb.jpg.9e80110f0a038c90ce0388dd5f031ecb.jpg

Popped down to Hyper-Tune again after changing out the duffed turbo. Not had a closer look at it yet, but going to guess a seal has failed. But, had another one, so in it went.

photo5999204199180644585.thumb.jpg.1e859586991f5e1ef621c362ce96cee8.jpg

The base map was from Angel-Tune, so not the original map, Always room to improve on it, but Hyper-tunes opinion on the map... isn't repeatable (!) So a lot of fueling and timing was re-done.
Can't go wrong with 205hp/462nm (340ish Lb'ft) Not as much as the original Silver Octi I had, but for the sake of reliability and drive-ability (Is that a word?) Wasn't going to push it to the limits of the original injectors.

photo5999204199180644586.thumb.jpg.77276c92276a1091d7f21591355de5c9.jpg

Also treated it to a new non-foam intake filter from Hyper-tune also. Yeah, I know, bay needs a clean.

So whats next?

  • I'm waiting to hear from BYC about bits
  • Have some money to burn on another BKD engine block I have sitting around, plan for that is MOAR POWAH BABY. Injectors, Bigger turbo, PD170 gearbox etc etc
  • Full wrap in the near future... once all the rust is sorted...
  • 2 months later...

Well. Its been a good run, but I am really considering moving on from this BKD. The rust which is forming along both sills is starting to worry me, So I had two shops look at it for a quote. One never returned my calls/messages and another quoted about £2500/3000 for all the work. Sills, doors, door shuts other bits here and there. The rear sub frame is pretty rusted too, I think its time is coming. Throwing £3k at it I don't really feel is worth it, that and with the nature of the rust, once you start chipping away at it, how much of the car will be left?

I've donated my spare BKD engine to a friend. I plan to remove the new LSD I bought not so long ago from the spare gearbox I have and keep it to one side, flog the gearbox and a ton of other BKD stuff. I highly doubt I'll get much for it complete, but I don't really have the room to strip it all out. Likely to try and sell to a friend who runs a garage and see what they think.

Currently looking at a few VRS 's, CR170's 2009 area is about the limit of what funds I have set aside.

Still plan to apply a wrap, BGW and lower the next one, but engine mod wise, I think I'm going to have to try hard to not let the itchy modifying fingers get lose 🤪

Clearly it wasn't the year for buying or thinking of buying a new car to replace the Octi, So just trying to make the best of things currently.

Y1lkeFL.jpg
DeB5E7O.jpg

Had a knocking noise in the back, thought it was something in the boot. So after stripping it all and finding nothing, soon found this instead. Replaced, no more knocking. Also did the ball joints.

8WY8Gfa.jpg

Replacement wings as the others had rusted too much to save. All painted and on. Not happy with the overall finish, plan is still to wrap the car but with no final design and everything up in the air currently, going to be a long time coming, if ever.

In an attempt to stop the rust on the rear arches as they had started to bubble. I'm not great at body work, but still had to try. Don't think the end result is too bad, see how long it lasts.

Was bored of the same old green dials, so went to work with the soldering iron. Not bad at all.

So yeah, still here. Still plodding along.

I donated the spare BKD engine I had. No idea if I was ever going to get to work on it or have the funds to do what I wanted with it. Can always get another if I want.
