Columbus - Everything was fine until ..........

Featured Replies

Three times in the last 2 days the Columbus unit fitted to my Jan 2012 Superb has decided, after about five minutes, to re-boot itself. Re-boot doesn't take long but I am wondering whether it will just eventually die.

Once re-boot over it is fine.

Is this a bad sign of things to come ?

Is it outside influences such as phone ?

Worried as I have 500 mile round trip next Mon/Tues and have come to rely heavily on the SatNav - now contemplating back-up.

Only happened to me 3-4 times in 20 months, so rate is much higher than mine. Had no issues though apart from this occasional reboot

Cheers

Steve

i had my last unit replaced 18 months old then the new one only lasted two days skoda had to replace that one as well i must admit i am a bit worried for the future when the warranty runs out.

There was a recent thread on Columbus failures here. I posted a link there on a place which offers to repair faulty Columbus units.

Warranty Direct will include cover for OEM Sat Navs - but you have to ask them. To cost was very reasonable.

There seems to be an increasing number of Columbus units going pop, under warranty it's fine. I will definitely be taking out a warranty like the above one when mine runs out in 18 months time.

Please tell me what OEM stands for.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer
