Fed up! Decisions, decisions.....

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just wondering if you could help me out,

Sorry if i'v posted in the incorrect place or something, not good at all with using forums lol,

Had my vrs remapped a little while ago by got boost tuning who were wmvery good and helpful, the guy there said that the readings were saying that my boost solenoid meeded replacing and my turbo will need the same pretty soon. As a result of this the car only went to 152 bhp and he said if i replace boost solenoid and turbo it should then go up to 170-180. Also iv got a judder coming off my fly wheel :( so that'll need doing soon!

Do i,

A. Replace all with standard parts?

B. replace with a hybrid turbo?

But how much does that set up cost roughly all in all for everything? ( that would require upgraded clitch too, rite?

Or

C. Sell the car and give up my pride and joy?

(already have milltek exhaust and panel filter)

if it was my car, id put on a sachs clutch and dmf, then try and get a decent second hand turbo off ebay there are a few good pd150 garrett turbos knocking about

What mileage is your car on dude?

Im not very mechanically minded, so not sure at all on which ine to get :/ or are they all the same? Is there anything else involved to changing it? Like other components? Roughly hiw much is a sachs clitch n flywheel?

Its on 52,000 :/ it has a hiding every day tbf to it, and has done for the last 20,000 before i bought it.

Take it to another garage! At that mileage there is no chance that the turbo and the flywheel are ******

I'm in a simular situation :(

My plan is to drive like a Grandad until I got the cash to replace everything with uprated parts, don't see the point in replacing the standard flywheel with another standard one as they are legendary for being **** on all VAG cars.

£970 + labour which wont be cheap but you wont have to do it again for the life of the car as long as you don't drive like a ****.

Worth noting what year your car is? and is a ASZ (pre 05) or BLT (post 05)

Also worth asking the other Welsh people on here what garage they use?

My first turbo went at 56k

Really?

Iv had the flywheel checked in a local garage and they said it was on its way and would need doing before long,

Cheers mate, ill be hetting that clutch kit as its cheaper than the standard quote iv had,

I just use a local garage in carmarthen as there arent any local tuning garages :/

Also my mates turbo went on his ibiza fr pd130 at 45,000 miles.... He drives the same as me really but had his car abit longer, when his went it sent the centre part of the turbo theough his exhaust :/

Sorry if im being stupid but if i get a sachs clutch and flywheel and the turbo that has been posted above do i then need to get an intercooler and Bigger air intake?

that is a ridiculous statement

Glad you said that as i was getting worried that it mite be something else wrong :/

Has anyone else experianced the gasket between turbo and manifold blowing? I thiught it mite have been the exhaust one but its not, makes a hell of a screeching noise when entering the turbo area when accelerating? :/

Ive never heard of that!

That is extremely unlucky and if it was me i would take it 2 2 independant garages to get it check out!

I'm in no way saying it's typical or to be expected, but to state that there is no chance that a turbo and/or dmf can need replacing after 50odd thousand miles as fact isn't accurate

didnt say it was fact! was from my experience.

Cant comment on turbo but when I first for my fabia it had a brand new dmf fitted. It took me 10k to destroy it due to not adjusting my driving style to suit the dmf.

In general either can let go at any point saying there is no chance of it happening when you dont know service history or how he drives it is a bit silly

However why did the guy continue to remap it when he found faults on the car. Doesnt make sense to me. He said turbo is on its way out and then increased boost with a remap. Doesnt sound like a good company to me

The guy highly recomended that i dont remap it but i never travel up that way and had specifically to get the map, he said that if i had it mapped i need to change the turbo amd boost solenoid asap, it was my decision to still map it because it was a pre fab revo map, but the car has been fine since and iv been extremley busy work wise so have need the car to travel back and forth.

He said that it was running 137.3 bhp and 226 ftlb before map which indicates the boost solenoid was faulty, and 152bhp and 245.5 after map, but said it should go upto 170-180 bhp and 280-290 when fixed :/ bit of a bad decision on my behalf, but i intended to fix it but havent got around to it :/

But now iv got the cash and the time so.....

Fair enough then have you got a copy of the fault codes that came up

  • Author

Just reading the recipt now,

"Customer informed of suspected turbocharger blade damage rumesulting in low air flow"

"suggest inspect and replace turbocharger and boost control solenoid"

And i had the map done on the 07/07/12, doesnt give any fault codes.

got boost told me pretty much the same and mine got 156bhp, 3 weeks later my turbo went pop so they do know what they are talking about. also it wasnt then who mapped it.

Ah rite.... Well a gasket has gone on my turbo so maby thats the loss of air they picked up, but i rung my local wholesalers and they said it was a dealer part only which was about £7.99 but would cost upto £200 to fit because it requires the turbo to be taken off so ill get that done and whilst the turbo is off get it inspected properly!

yer good idea. but if you can afford a new turbo i would just go hybrid as the kkks are a ticking time bomb, that said there a good few on here with maps and 100+k miles on the kkk and going strong. if you decide hybrid though pm speedy_vrs he can hook you up at a very good price with fitting and a new map :)

no high horse, but how else are people supposed to take at that mileage there is no chance that the turbo and the flywheel are ******? I've had an uprated Sachs clutch fail in less than 50 thousand miles due to fitting a totally inappropriate clutch to a daily driver

Ok thankyou :) will i need a bigger intercooler with the hybrid? And sorry to be dull but how do i pm him? Lol
