My names Chris and i join you from the rather smokey world of screwed out Pugeot 306 Dturbos, which i loved dearly but sadly time had caught up with it and after 5 years of costing me a fortune it wasn't worth it anymore (much to my parents and girlfriends relief).

So in a bid to get something more grown up and "proper" I've just bought a black 55 plate mk1 Octavia vrs, its in great condition dispite having done 138K but came with full servise history and cambelt done etc and only 1 owner. Milage doesn't bother me to much as I have a 60 mile commute, and I figure if a knackered 17yo french hatchback can made it to 160K odd without any problems then a properly built car must be fine lol.

So far iv been very impressed, it feels properly nailed together and solid (but then compared to the pug i guess most things are) and the fact all the electic stuff still works and the leather and being able to rev past 3,500 rpm is a welcome change.

Feels like a bit of a heffalump in the twistys, knowhere near as much fun as my old pug but then I guess I didnt really expect to much given it weighs about 9 tonnes and is related to a golf.

I hear a rear arb helps things no end so i may invest in one in the near the future but after having to shell out for new tyres and its m.o.t tomorrow i'll leave it for now.

Apart from that I'm going to leave it fairly standard just paint the grill and wheels black and that'll be that I think.

The only issue i have it that it can sometimes feel very jerky/hessitant on light throttle sometimes when nothing happens then all of a sudde it goes of like rocket. Its nothing major just annoying when in traffic/commuting etc.

Im gonna ask the garage to look at it when iv looked online its suggested its the throttle body/maf sensor? hopefully they can sort it.

But yeah very happy overal so far especially with the economy as it doesnt seem to use anymore fuel than my dturbo (although that may just show how shagged it was in the end) and if u sit in the middle lane of the motorway everyone thiks your under cover haha.

Certainly a southerner, not so sure about the grown up bit but as long as the gf thinks its just a "regular" car the better
