06 TFSI VRS written off looking at 07- 170 CR VRS replacement

Featured Replies

Our petrol octy vrs estate has bitten the bullet in a rta. We will be battling with the insurance company shortly for a payout and Im looking at a 07- 170 diesel vrs as a replacement.

What do I need to look out for on the diesels ,will an 07 be a CR engine or PD and how do I tell by looking or are they the same ?

cheers

Dave

Couldn't tell you the visual differences but for sure on an '07' it will be a PD.

2007 diesel vRS's will be PD's.

The CR was introduced during 2008.

You can tell a CR over a PD by looking at the plastic engine cover under the bonnet..

You'll need to look under the lid to see the difference.

you'll probably know if you take it for a test drive too, boot it and if it has an allmighty thump in your back when the torque kicks in, its a PD.

If the torque seems more spread through the range it's a CR.

I like the sound of the pd ,reminds me of my old 5 gt turbo

As said a 2007 will be a PD170.

Common issues with the vRS, petrol or diesel are the ABS and the aircon.

Warranty/Re-call - Petrol will be coil packs and Diesel will be injectors.

And DPF's...

And the injectors on the PD170.

Personally I'd go for a PD140 non-VRS or CR170 and skip the PD170.

The injectors are a non-issue on the PD170 as they're being replaced FOC.

DPF removel and remap (if required/desired) can be done for £400.

The PD170 is a cracking engine.

That assumes the FoC replacement doesn't cause more problems such as the more common than it should be diesel in oil and associated turbo etc failures.

Very true, I experienced both, neither were particularly pleasant.

This was however through the incompetance of the dealer and not a reflection on the car.

Given a choice I'd likely chose the CR170 over the PD170. The better design of the DPF on the CR would outweigh the addictive acceleration of the PD, although I do like my PD170 :giggle:

Personally I would skip the diesel altogether and get another tfsi or tsi. I went from a tfsi to a CR and was very disappointed.

I was thinking keeping in derv land.

It's all down to what somebody want's from a car anyway
