Skoda insurance?

Featured Replies

Ok so things are moving along quite nicely with our Citigo, all I need now is insurance cover for when I pick it up next week.

So my question for those with experience "What is Skoda insurance like to deal with"

I know you can only pass experiences on good or not so if you have ever made a claim or had to talk with them over any other issues.

I've had a very good quote for my Citigo, almost to good to refuse but I find Aviva my current company have also been good to me.

Any thoughts good or as said not so good.

Ah BTW I've already got a 7 day cover note with Skoda, but do I continue with them?

Mick

Find out who the broker is ;)

Skoda insurance will be a brand name of somebody else's product...

It will probably be Highway or similar

It's Allianz insurance.

Not heard anything bad personally...

Very good, from personal experience. :-)

they gave me a reasonable quote, a few quid dearer than my old insurer (zenith) but the clincher for me was car will always be repaired by skoda not some approved accident repair shop and if damage is over 65% of list value in first year it is a new car

people were good to deal with over phone, but so far only dealings i have had is to give them money

Yeah that's what they told me re repairs and new car under 1 year old. Seems a good deal to me also comes with NCD and legal covers and also they are eager to match my renewal quote on my Mazda.

be aware the 7 day cover has a £500 excess,

Used them for the 7 day free offer but found they double the cost of other insurances. (Same with fiat's own insurance).

Cant imagen Skoda using them if they wasn't an ok company.

I would like to find an insurance company then who will insure my Citigo for just over £100.

Had a yearly quote from Skoda for £215.00 fully comp, social, domestic & pleasure. Pretty good, I thought, for a citigo 75 elegance greentech.

There are so very many variables when it comes to insuring your car that it's not helpful to say "I only paid...£.XXX..XX" etc. However, I live in the WestCountry and my Hyundai i10 auto. is in a substantially higher insurance group than a manual Citigo (I checked) and my protected NCB comprehensive premium including £25's worth of Legal Protection was £144 last week.....so I could easily see me getting cover for around £100 without the Legal Protection. (and to prove the point, my online quotes for a Citigo were indeed very close to £100).I used QuoteZone and GoCompare and did a bit of haggling with my present company to match the best online quote - and they agreed. Always pays to shop around and haggle a bit in my experience.

i recommend Lv for cheapness, i havent used them before and have only been with them about a week or 2 so cant comment what they are like, but for me they were the cheapest, aviva are quite good as are NFU Mutual

best of luck

The above named companies feature in surveys from a couple years ago which sought customers views on Customer Service. All did positively. I did my own research and found NFU Mutual to be recommended for good and personal customer service BUT they were almost literally twice the price of the rest. LV often have good reports so if the price is right I'd be happy with them myself. Aviva used to be Norwich Union and I was with them for a few years but more latterly I found their Customer Service Centres to be staffed by personnel who I couldn't understand who seemed, to me, to be in a different continent.....and the most basic requirement, for me, is to be able to hold a coherent conversation with the organization that is insuring my property. Saga do well in the polls I've seen (not that that means a great deal) and I've found them to be good on the phone during the recent years that I've been with them ....and they do like to try and match prices too. The other company I've found to be OK (and who I'm also with now) is Adrian Flux.

Of course, all this means nothing until you come to claim....and then you find out whether you made the right choice. And even then one individual might do well with a company's claims department and the next bloke finds them awful...so it's a matter of luck to some extent - you can only do what you think is best having done a bit of research.

Thanks for that, I totally agree with you about actually being able to hold a conversation with them, I have spoken to the people at lv and they all spoke English, which just makes whatever you are asking for that much easier, I hate it when you phone up and it seems that you are speaking to someone from a different continent

Thats a bit harsh on Geordies!

LV= are very good but I'm biased

I'll second that; and so am I.

It was a bit hard on Long Term customers from Liverpool, that had been with LV (LIverpool Victoria) from the start

& then LV would not renew insurance for them because of bad Post Codes & their new strict policy towards those post codes in Liverpool.!

I agree that those customers who have been with them from the start must be feeling tired of it all....after all Liverpool Victoria started in 1843, so apart from their premiums rising, they must be feeling their age.

(That's an attempt at a joke, by the way).

But I can't believe that LV are the only company to administer pricing based on risk. If I choose to live in a statistically safe part of the UK I don't particularly want to pay the same premium for someone else living in a statistically high crime area. Neither do you, I would imagine.

Higher premiums for living on a flood plain, or high crime area, or a personal history of numerous claims, high risk occupation...the list goes on.

I have also been told that some postcodes get loaded because the value of the cars / property that gets nicked is higher, which in turn means a greater loss to the insurer.

People often think that, 'Parked on Drive', is cheaper than 'Parked on Street', or Parked in Shared Private Parking.

Not the case in Many Post Code Areas.

Very High Claims often come from Private & even Gated Drives.

A Range Rover, & Porsche parked in a Private Drive and damaged from a Falling Chimney or Slates during a storm as much as targeted by Vandals or Sat Nav stealers.

Not just that type of thing,

it is also important to say that in times of Recession,

false claims can often be shown to come from Self Employed or recently Retired/redundant workers.

Any area can have people that are gettiing in Financial Difficulties, & might be at it...

All sorts of risks as much as Commuting, Not Commutting, children in the household under driving age, may be considered.

Private Households with several vehicles & young teenagers in a household can easily become a high risk Post Code area.

re LV,

It was 2007 that 'Liverpool Victoria' started trading under the name 'LV'.

Big Media campaign, adverts etc & happy to take customers and grow quickly in vehicle insurance, good customer service etc.

It was 2011 that they canceled peoples Automatic renewals and due to errors did not Inform poeple they had no Valid Insurance, but took the Premiums/DD's etc.

Grown bigger and faster & Customer Service and administration suffers.

'Or so i Understand from Liverpool people that had to be compensated,

maybe just forum 'over told stories and urban myths..'

Thats a bit harsh on Geordies!

That's a bit harsh!! :)

I perfectly understand them :)

Quite a lot of generalizations there, George. (is it George or george?). Any statistics to back them up?

To be honest I've never heard the possibility of a chimney falling on to a car parked in a driveway being a factor to be considered in calculating motor premiums...but who am I to say?

I'm fairly sure we can agree that there are generally accepted criteria that are used in the calculation of risk and if you're 19, with a BMW M series, live in, or on the outskirts of, of one of our major cities, your premium is gonna be a bit higher than a 55 year old country dweller with a Morris Minor

It is a generalization, its just a few of the type of things that the Computers used by Underwritters have been running through for years now.

All things can be considered, & the Big Claims are usually Fatalities & Life Changing injuries,

but 'non' traffic accident 'Motor Insurance Claims' very much come in to 'Risk' considerations and assessing claims & settelments.

Vandalism, Accidental Damage, Fire, Break ins to Vehicles, Damage from Pets, Damage from Children etc..

Not all just crashes & accidents.

Fraud claims or a rise in High Value claims is something being flagged up regularly in recent years.

Not just 'Crash for Cash', Collectors cars etc disapearing. Several cars damaged all in a small area.

Who pays out on the Vehicles in recent Floods,?

Not the Home or Building Insurance.

I have some knowledge of the Motor Repair trade, buying Write offs etc (with all sorts of Damage outside and many inside)

& dealing with Insurance Assessors and Loss Adjusters over the last 3 decades.
