  • He never said that about the MK1 Fabia VRS though the twit!

  • Just about every post you make slags off Skoda, be that the cars or the dealers. Why don't you just put yourself out of your misery and P/X it for the BMWs you keep banging on about???

He never said that about the MK1 Fabia VRS though the twit!

No that's right, the mk1 was a massive break through for the diesel according to him, handling great too. In actually beat the 2.0 petrol cooper around the track

From this month's Top Gear Mag:

Almost without anyone noticing, Skoda has cme up with a whole range of good, honest excellentness. Well done, them.

The Octavia is one of those cars that everyone should consider more when thinking of getting a Golf. Boot is huge, engines are good, prices are cheap.

Also, they ranked the Octavia vRS 23rd in the hot hatch shootout (The Fabia vRS came 18th, incidentally):

It's a Golf GTI in Stealth Mode. It's well priced and you can have it in Estate flavor. We like this...

I enjoy Top Gear, and enjoy reading Clarkson's columns in particular. But if you're after serious consumer advice, you'd be better off looking elsewhere. He's an entertainer, pure and simple. Would you take serious consumer advice from an entertainer?

1.6 Mini Cooper has less power and less torque than the 1.9 in the Fabia.

I am sure it was only a 1.6 mini cooper as they were close on price and spec.

Ah

Spot on. It's no good quoting Clarkson when he says something favourable about your favourite brand, then get angry when he says the opposite a few months later. He's in the business of entertainment, a bit of hysteria created after his latest gaff is all for the good and makes his agent happy. So his agenda might have been to generate some debate about Skoda, it might have been because he couldn't think of anything to write, or it could, just could be because he didn't like the car.

Whatever, he has an agenda, I doubt he is ever speaking as a serious car reviewer any more.

Ah

I think it had less power over all but faster 0-60 time (only did a 1.6 in the normal cooper). 5th gear did same test cant find top gear one did have it on favourites

...everything cheap is rubbish
Well, by his own words then he's the rubbishest thing around if You look at the amount of cheap and dirty shots he takes at everything not to his bombastic liking. He's the tsar of stuck up their noses buffoons and when he trashes a car which is obviously excellent however you look at it it is the best recommendation a motor can get I my eyes :)

that was a pretty crappy review, it was not very informative and pretty one sided

Sry, looks like Tapatalk messed it up... Tried editing but with limited success :(

Top gear the magazine and top gear on tv have always given me the impression they're two completely different animals. As has been said, the tv and all offshoots associated appear to me to be down to high-brow entertainment. By contrast, the magazine tends to be more consumer based and realistic so will genuinely compare summat at £20k and £50k and comment on whether it's good bang for the buck objectively, not saying it's rubbish just cos one's cheap.

Oh who cares what fatarse says with all that understeer between his ears?

Not a bad review really; the bottom line being you can have a lot of fun for less dosh. And remember he went (positively) ballistic about the Yeti...

I don't really care how many people he converts, although I'm still happier burning off Beamers, rather than seeing their drivers join the ranks of this hallowed institution. :bandit:

No, I haven't got 4 copies: I was just dicking around with my telephone

To be fair, you've quoted 4 words. As can be seen from most of his road tests where he goes from apparent loathing to apparent loving of a car (or vice versa), there are rarely 4 words that sums up any of his opinions.

Never mind Clarkson I have a few badge snobs at my work, they drive VW and Audi but would not set foot in a skoda even though they are brilliant cars but it is there loss.

You don't by chance work in Aberdeen where the 4-ringed **** brigade (clarkson's words if I remember rightly :)) is king. Must be the easiest job in the NE Scotland an Audi salesman lol

No, I live on the west coast of Scotland near a town called Ayr, 40 miles from Glasgow. I know what you mean some of my fellow colleagues just cant see by Audi but they cost a fortune in upkeep and I still think you are getting better value for money with the Vrs or any skoda for that matter, I bet you some of them haven't even sat in one or had a test drive.

Audi? Please. I'm trading in a 7 year old A4 S-line tdi for my VRS tdi.

With the VAT offer, plus £500 dealer contribution I'm getting a Blackline VRS for around £17300. What brand new Audi with that 170 engine and all those toys could I get near for that price. It's a bloody steal.

I had A3 1.6 petrol 13 years ago-all bad memories. Friends have A6 saloon 2.0TDi- spends more time in the garage than on the road-even if somebody gave it to me I'd not drive but sell it right away lol

I hope you told your Audi/VW snob workmates that the Octavia (bar body panels and trim) is exactly the same car as the Audi A3/VW Golf.......all mechanical parts are interchangeable between the three cars.

I have already mentioned this many times and some of them already know its a golf underneath but the fact it says skoda on the badge is enough for them, I don't think it would matter if the skoda was 99.9% Audi they just can't get by the badge, now if it was an Audi Vrs I bet that would make a difference but they are the losers and let them spend loads more money while we get a bargain and a great car as well.

The new Octavia needs a power upgrade big time, and the dealer network needs a boot up the brown pipe.

...and the dealer network needs a boot up the brown pipe.

The Skoda dealer network has just been ranked 6th out of 27 in a What Car? review.

Impressive.
