First VRS, what comes first?

Featured Replies

Ok, so I have my first skoda, a 54 plate VRS. It is completely standard as far as I can tell, doesn't have more power or anything, or at least I can't tell if it has. It does however have an EJM Preparation and DNA Tuning sticker on the tailgate. Hvae emailed EJM but have had no response.

Anyway, I was wondering what people consider to be the 'must change' mods etc for the car? Not looking at remaps etc just yet, but things that may improve the ride/handling/general comfort etc . . . . Or will just make it look a bit nicer too ha ha, as mine is red, with many stone chips and a faded spoiler!

It's all down to personal choice. I liked the look of the 17" Spiders from an Octavia vRS, with the 312mm brakes on the front and lowered slightly on Eibachs. All quite subtle but makes the car look that bit better, though still saving for the Eibachs at the moment. :D

A Briskoda sticker!!

A Briskoda sticker!!

Needs more than 1 though. ;)

Interested to follow this thread bud because i pick my completely standard red 54 plate 2morow (fingers crossed) think im going to Black off/carbon wrap the front chrome grille, retro-fit cruise control and carbon wrap the interior vents etc. That might make me sound like a sheep because it seems to be the “done thing” but it just looks awesome! Plus i cant rmemeber the last time i used a cd so gonna get myself a nice head unit too!

I'm quite happy with the standard wheels for now, but some better springs/shocks could interest me yeah. Just come from a VW T4 and I had that on Sachs Super Touring shocks, made a massive difference to the ride. I quite like the idea of it staying a little 'stealth' on the external side of things ha ha. I always wanted the Eibach's for my T4, everyone swore by them.

Eibach's and better brakes and the rear ARB I know their benefits, what are the benefits to the strut braces?

Stop as much body roll by joining the tops of the front and rear strusts together by metal bars

Fair enough, does it have a negative impact on comfort? Or is it just a mod with no drawback at all (if such a thing exists).

I have 2 strut braces and a rear arb and i feel no difference in comfort as all just less body roll

Sounds ideal then does that!

Remap, cruise control retro-fit, RARB IMO.

Cup holders, under seat storage, roofbars, sharkfin aerial, polish and wax, Led sidelights and numberplate lights...

Not to forget the textbook seat leon cupra splitter :)

For me, first steps for a new car is a good old clean inside and out, a set of coilovers, and 6000k bulbs all round.

Plus any service bits that need doing.

Whilst looking at coilovers I'd also address new mounts and bushes.

Specific to the fabia id immediately look at; colour coded front grill handles and plate surround, LCR splitter.

2nd tier list I'd look at 312mm brakes, ARB, seats, remap.

First things id be doing is getting it serviced, ie oil, coolant and filter change. Id then look at uprating the suspension and be checking the lower arm console bushes and upgrading them to cupra front and powerflex rear bushes. Then id get either coilies or eibach springs and lower it. After the lowering get a Rear anti roll bar, then look at superficial mods ie splitters and cup holders etc etc.

Valet,

Service

Polybushes for:

Front Wishbone bush

Rear wishbone (console) bush

Front ARB bushes

Will really stiffen up the handling but not to an uncomfortable level. Will also be considered preventitive maintenance as these cars are hard on bushings.

Nice one, seems the bushes are something everyone seems to suggest doing, so, as good a place as any to start I guess.

Though somehow getting all the soot off the rear bumper can be attempted while waiting to get bushes ha ha.

Sooty? My standard VRS was never sooty neither is it now it has a shark remap. Stick a pick up mate.

There's a couple of lads who drive around here with sooty rears - both have crap maps!

Ahhh, so the car may have been mapped then, hence the stickers in my first post . . . . . How can I tell if it has been? Like I said, it doesn't feel like it is especially powerful, but then I have no experience of the VRS before now anyway.

Bit hard to tell as didn't use flash as it kept bleaching it too much. But, under the general bit of dirt you can see lots of black, and it goes up and gets narrower the higher it gets.

Repeating what others have said, but personally:

Wash. Wax. Service, so you know where you are. Perhaps find a friendly mechanic to give it a good once over (perhaps MOT it?)

Then just simply drive it & get used to it.. You'll soon start to identify what YOU think needs changing.

If you're getting a load of soot, you may have a boost leak..

Despite the bumper making it look like it is loads of soot, I can only say I have seen some smoke when giving it a little boot, which I do quite rarely anyway to be honest. I'm too busy seeing how much MPG I can get out of it ha ha.

However, a boost leak? I am new to anything turbo frankly, what is that?

I will try to remove all the residue tomorrow if weather is ok, then run it a while and see if it gets mucky again.
