So I have a few issues, one of the headlamps is cloudy any ideas on restoring these, The parking sensors emit a long beep and don't work and I don't have a CD changer magazine so if anyone is breaking a superb please get in touch. For the price I paid I can live with the faults.

If its the lense on the outside I tried to clean mine.

Toothpast didn't work like a lot of people say (but I guess it might depend on which brand).

This stuff did

Thanks I'm gonna try toothpaste because it's cheap but if not I'll try that stuff. I've had good sucess with other Mequiars products.

Braso is what I used on my headlamps on my Octavia.

I used the toothpaste. It worked a bit but I need to go back and do it again.

So I've bought Genuine Mats, A New Genuine CD Magazine and a 2012 satnav disc.

Now I need to work out how to get the parking sensors out.

Booked into R-tech for a remap :)

where did you get disc from?

Hey guys, why hasn't anybody done a writeup that is actually Superb buyers guide / check list, where every problem is described (water ingress, 2.0 PD engine, rusting from boot lid and some useful tips)?

This can be pinned and everyone making a new thread with this question, can be redirected to that thread. Just a thought, no offense m0gsi, this has been a hot topic like forever.

Off course this can lead to dieing out of this forum

Yeah I think I should make a project thread and post in there. I think a buyers guide should be a bit better formatted than this!

Proposal, we make a thread, where we collect the checklist, then edit first post with these guide points and delete other posts. And then it's good idea to pin it :)

m0gsi: Now I need to work out how to get the parking sensors out.

I've had this problem intermittently for four years - the first year the dealer "fixed" the problem several times under warrantly. What I eventually realised was that one of the sensors was popping slightly out of its mount so when I engaged reverse it sensed the edge of the bumper recess and thought I was up against a wall, hence all reversing was very noisy! I can reach round underneath the bumper and pop it back in for a temporary fix but I put a tiny amount of superglue round the edge about a year ago and it fixed the problem - until yesterday! It's worst when it gets wet, of course, as that lubricates it and allows it to vibrate out. I'm washing it tomorrow so the superglue will be employed again.

Folks,

Im the recent proud owner of a Superb! Thanks to all the contributors here who assisted me, either indirectly or directly! Its been a huge help to me.

So, ive compiled a list of checks that i used when buying my car, bear in mind im nowhere near a mechanic, but i intend to learn so most of these are cosmetic checks only and should be used in conjunction with a good mechanic or otherwise to check out the car,i did with mine. Also checks are used with the standard Vehicle checks that can be ascertained on www. The checks are on an elegance upward model. As i said, Most of this info is from these forums so if somebody needs further explanation a quick search will reveal all. i Have probably forgot half them, but it may be handy if someone is looking at a superb.

Glad you have found a good one and hope you enjoy it, a few corrections to your pretty comprehensive list:

Radiator - check white stains = sign of leaks

The stains should actually have a pink residue, this is the colour of the G12 coolant.

check EGR Valve for leaks

The EGR valve does weep a bit of oil vapour, so don’t be alarmed if it is only weeping.

Rust on Pinch Bolts

These WILL BE rusted unless they have been replaced… they rust very quickly due to the grade of steel and poor rust protection used.

Car stero/ Code

Don’t be surprised if this is not present, as they are no longer supplied as std.

Rear folding seats

This is only applicable on 54 plate onwards cars, the earlier ones do not fold.

Welcome home function

This can be turned on and off with VCDS, so not the end of the world if it is not present, the previous owner probably just had it ‘coded out’.

Plenum chamber cleaned out in service history

This is not a service item AIUI, but certainly physically check the plenum chamber is not blocked up as this is going to be the single most annoying problem you will encounter on a MKI Superb, as when they leak (they ALL will leak if the pollen filter has not been resealed and the plenum chamber kept free from debris… ideally by BOTH grommets being removed) they will affect multiple electrical items.

Oh and don’t waste your time and money by even thinking about the 2 litre PD140 engine!! (no matter how cheap it is)

Cleaning the service history is on the service checklist, well on the one i had anyway! i hadnt time to fully explain all items but they can be found on this forum! Roto reccomends taking out and lubricating the pinch bolts once a year, i suppose their only items to look further into!

Cleaning the Plenum Chamber.... I mean

This can be turned on and off with VCDS, so not the end of the world if it is not present, the previous owner probably just had it ‘coded out’.

Can it? I thought that was only applicable to the Superb 2?

Don’t have my MKI anymore but I am sure it was possible to turn them on/off in VCDS.

The pinch bolt lubrication is a good idea, but they will be rusted up solid by now anyway if they have not been out before, mine were solid after 3 years, so I left them to be worried about when they needed to come out - I sold the car before they needed to come out though.

If the plenum chamber were actually cleaned out every service then I doubt there would be so many Passats and MKI Superbs with water ingress issues.

Plenum chamber is listed I am sure in my service book...Though I doubt it is ever done by dealers.

T cut or any cutting compound will bring back the plastic on the headlights Just apply and polish with an electric buffer with some water to stop overheating as for the reversing sensors it is a problem with the factory fitted sensors on these cars best go on e bay and buy a replacement set with the same hole diameter

Plenum chamber is listed I am sure in my service book...Though I doubt it is ever done by dealers.

"Annual Inspection

...

* Inspect plenum chamber for soiling, clean if necessary

..."

Anyone know of this being done?

This is devonutopia from this forum, he's running 275bhp from a tdi. Whilst I wouldn't like to go this extreme I'd be tempted by going a little further than a remap.

Whilst I like the fact he's ramped the engine power up, all those modifications aren't going to mean squat unless he puts some diesel in soon. :drunk:

I'm also wondering how long the engine itself will last with that kind of power. If i was to tune my car that much while driving 50K miles a year i'm pretty sure i'll be broke from workshop bills. :-)
