Simple, do you NEED winter wheels and tyres?

If not, either get winter tyres for your spiders (which is what I've just done) and then buy new summers next April.

or

Buy all season tyres for your spiders which will last you throughout the year and be better in the track/lane/field environment you spoke of in your first post.

Winter tires are soo worth it just for the fact you can safely drive down the outside lane passing everyone slipping and sliding at 20 mph in snow lol

Agree with Raf. My transit is useless in the snow, then I fitted winter tires. I still love the look of defender drivers when you pass them on hills.

Well worth the money. Unless you have tried them you wouldn't know how much extra grip there is.

Think best one was driving to work one morning and getting out and falling on my ass, bloody car park was a skating rink but had not slippage what so ever driving up the hill so didn't realise lol

3 cars had to be towed up the hill that morning till they gritted it lol

So just because something isn't the cheapest, that makes it acceptable?

If you like Falkens and they do what you want - great. But until you've tried the best from Michelin, Goodyear, Vredestein and Hankook you've not seen the full potential of your car IMO.

Hmm, I certainly wouldn't put Vredestein in that company. They tramlined like crazy on my Volvo. Horrible tyres. The continentals Premium Contact 2's I put on afterwards outperformed them 3 times in every single category you can think of. And they just didn't grip on my Dad's old kit car, whatsoever. Admittedly it was a beast...

I wouldn't say Falken were a 'budget' brand at all. And I'd put P-zero nero's way above the likes of Hankook and Vredestein.

Can go more than fast enough on the road with Falkens, not had any traction issues. Driving any quicker people must be driving like utter bellends. :giggle:

Decent quality all round tyre but nobody is making out the are super high performance tyres.

I've found Ultrac Sessantas to be on a par with Pilot Sports and Pilot Exaltos, whilst wearing quicker. But everyone's experience is different.

You're right to include the Pirellis, but I've no personal experience of them. IMHO Contis are designed to be high performance but are overpriced when compared to other top tyres.

I just think that so often people spend hundreds or thousands on mods to their cars and then are happy to spend very little on tyres and I think that's bad. But what do I know? I'm just some guy on the internet ;)

I couldn't agree more. Tyres are absolutely THE MOST IMPORTANT component on your car. They are everything. Acceleration, braking, handling, the whole lot. People often don't pay anywhere near as much care and attention to tyres as they should. Especially tyre pressure. How many people do you know of that never check pressures until something is obviously wrong.

You're right about Conti's being overpriced for the performance they offer to, when it comes to the top grades. But the life of them was what impressed me most of all, in comparison to the big dogs, which didn't last anywhere near as long. Most of my tyre experiments has come out of the wife's cars though, who has far better cars than I, and covers more miles than I do in mine, by a long shot.

The 912 tyres are moderate really, have 4 of them on my Capri, very easy to get the back end out.

Falken 452 all round on mine, covered about 21k on them, only got 23k on Conti Sport 3, Falkens were a match for the Conti's apart from in the dry but not much in it. Got some Falken 453's waiting to go on.

Keep me updated on the 453s please m8

I'm going to say my usual with ContiSportContact3's. They're amazing. Not cheap, but i won't scrimp on tyres as I like the ability to test my anti-roll bars. :)

Hey up Jonny are they the ones I got for you?

Andy68 I don't think you can complain about that sort of milage from Conti's. on my S2 the Conti's would only last about 10k if that but it was running 280bhpish and tail happy when booted out of junction.

Wasn't complaining just showing that for half the price of Conti's the 452's are a good choice, most people seem to think they are a soft compound and wear out quickly, Personally Toyo's are my favourite tyre, but i refuse to buy tyres every 7k.

Have a set of Kleber Quadraxers on SWMBO's A2 for 1-2 months now and they seem rather good for a true 4 season tyre (they even have the Mountain and Snowflake symbol so actually a proper winter tyre as well) If you dont drive it like you stole it then these are a really good compromise (ALTHOUGH - they are not going to be as quiet as summers :D) and available with a V rating and a good range of sizes.

lovetyres.co.uk is a good place to get prices

I have a set of Matador MP 46 Hectorra 2 for 1 year and have made 20k kilometers.Good for the money i spend

I hated the Falken's i had on my BMW really poor grip, had conti's after that and they were amazing, yes they are expensive but made the car.

we spend ££££ on mods but then get tight to try and save a few quid on tyres, false economy

Trouble is everyone will have different opinions on the same thing, different driving styles etc

I did the ring in a 330 M-sport with Falken 452's and they gripped really well. They were brand new well about 800mile on them.

I have these on my spiders and carnt fault them for 80 quid a corner, apparently there a continal budget brand but ive had conti sports in past on my volvo and they are just as good and dont wear bad either for way i drive.

Have a set of dunlop sp sports on front on my pro race wheels and there hopeless they just spin and wont grip, it first and last set altho still better than a set of pirelli p zeros i once had on volvo they were dam right dangerous in wet
