The seat saga continues...

Featured Replies

After having the seatback tilt mechanism lever replaced under warranty, the seatback release cable on the other seat has now come loose.

It has come out of its fitting under the seat and also from it's fitting in the back of the seat so will not allow the seat to slide forwards unless you use the lever under the front of the seat as well.

It's been in today so they can have a look at it.

Apparently the whole seat will have to be replaced as the locating brackets for the cable have been damaged by the cable coming out of them.

They are quoting three days to do the work!!

To replace a seat? Four bolts and the wire for the airbag and heating.

Me no understandy?

Unless they're going to replace the seat frame only and have to take everything off the old one and refit to the new?

I haven't dealt with it up to now, as i am away, but will be speaking to them as soon as I have a chance.

Oh for crying out loud!

The car went back in to Palmers to have this sorted yesterday.

They said they needed the car for three days, so, after them having it to find out what was wrong, I had expected the repair to be completed this time.

I was wrong!

They haven't been able to repair the seat!

Apparently the seat needs more parts than was originally diagnosed. We were told that the problem is very common on the Citigo which, they explain, is the reason for the parts being on back order!

Why wasn't a full diagnosis done when it went in before?

Why were the parts not ordered at the time?

If they had done so, they would know they were on back order, saving us taking the car in, them stripping the seat and then having to keep the car until at least 7th November, when they say Skoda will release the parts for the back orders.

The loan car has to be returned on Friday. They were going to give us a hire car, but...

Problem. My daughter is not 21 yet and has only had her licence for 2 years so the hire company will rent her a car.

After quite a bit of "discussion" we will be picking up a loan Citigo for her to use until her car is fixed.

Ah i see the old British Leyland excuse "THEY ALL DO THAT SIR" is alive and well.

I had this issue on a 2003 Nissan Micra, again they all do that sir! Probably the same seat manufacturer, cheap and cheerful!

They're not saying that it should be like this, but that it is a common problem that Skoda UK and CZ are aware of and trying to resolve.

I just wish they had done it before our car was built :headbang:

Oh my god, after reading this I want to cry, had so many problems already, and am i right in saying the whole seat needs to be replaced? the same thing has happened on both seats they have stopped going back and forward when releasing the side seat lever :( Also if the whole seat needs to be replaced, what the heck will i do because I have custom stitching etc :S, keep us informed!

Cheers

Different fault on each seat.

Passenger side had the broken lever on the side so that it wouldn't turn far enough to get the seat back to move.

This time it's the drivers seat and the cable that the same lever attaches to to allow the seat to slide back and forward at the same time as allowing the seat back to fold forward.

Apparently, the whole seat does not need replacing.

They have it in pieces to replace the cable and othe bent/broken parts related to its operation.

If your seats suffer the same fate, I hope that Skoda use the same method of repair.

I would have thought that the covers won't be affected so even if the whole seat is replaced the covers can be transferred.

I might be tempted to get Seat Surgeons to do the swap though.

Well there's a turn up for the books.

Had a call from Palmers this afternoon.

Apparently they were given duff info from Skoda because the parts arrived today so the car is fixed.

Its now back home and my daughter is happy again. :)
