Need to deepen the boot on my estate

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I have popped a dog cage in the boot of my estate and have had to remove the false floor - sadly it's still about 5cm too high as when the boot is down the glass of the boot is resting on the top of the metal dog cage.

Can I remove the sliding rail on the floor ? If so how ?? :)

Think it maybe easier to change the dog box - i have a LinTran box made for an Audi A6 and it's a Perfect fit!

Al.

ps. Will post photo's if you like!

Heard of lots of mods to cars, but never a basement conversion!

Many thanks for responding - just been looking at the LinTran boxes - they look good but funds are a little tight :)

The metal rails are part of the boot floor and cannot be removed without causing permanent damage, much easier to change the box as mentioned already.

Not true. You need a special bit (XZN, I think it was M10, but could also be M8), but then you can easily remove the rails. I had to remove my left rail when I mounted my tow bar. If you have a good look at the rails, the screws are very easily visible.

Here's a good picture of an XZN bit: xzn_tip.jpg

Buying such an XZN bit set is a good idea if you own an S2 anyway, since these bolts are used on many interior parts, like the seats and seat belts (and the rails).

Yes as previous post. Very easily removed with the right tool. Three fixings per rail. Mine came out to remove the side trim to fit towing electrics too.

If the OP was a bit closer to me I'd offer to swap my standard floor for his raised floor...

As a temprary fix, can you not just turn the basket sideways and push down the rear seat so it slides far enough in ? It might be a bit tricky to get Rover in and out, but it should get you past the problem until you remove the rails

Good purchase if you own ANY VAG car. My Fabia uses the twelve spline type on at least the locks and suspension. Also used on Octy's, Superb's, Golf's, A2's,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,You Superb owners aren't special or singled out for this type of screw head you know ;)
