VRS Blackline - Amundsen features

Featured Replies

It will play random tracks, not sure about apple/iTunes formats, all mine are flac/mp3.

So random from all tracks, not just within that folder?

Thanks

  • ...and is there any way to connect a MDI cable into the back of it? Also, I was under the impression after doing a bit of reading on here that the Sat Nav worked using the CD, however Ive been inform

  • The maxi-dot works compliments the sat nav on the amundsen + very nicely. the maxi dot shows a very simple directional arrow (i.e. straight on, left turn) and how long left in miles on the current roa

  • Think I'll be leaving that for my dealer, or Shark performance. Haha.

Yes correct, you can choose random against all tracks on SD or within folder.

Not tried it. But I bet it won't work.

Will you let us know if you try it!

Lol. I am not going to bother, sd card full, and I am sure there are no codecs on the unit for video playback.

There is no video playback capability on the amundsen, only audio

Anyone else tried enabling the bluetooth via VCDS?

I have a six-month old SE+ with the Amundsen+ unit fitted, it came with everything enabled so I have MDI, Bluetooth, phone, satnav, rear parking display, maxi-dot etc. Satnav data is stored internally somehow. There are traffic reports that show up but I have not idea where they come from (the FM radio?).

I have a 32GByte SD card with all my music on it, and have no use for the MDI interface so far (but this may change). If I want to play music from my iPhone it will do this via Bluetooth.

Sound quality is not that great. And I dislike the visual animations. Apart from that its perfect.

OK so I thought I would show you my BT enabled Blackline Amundsen Plus head-unit:

Once Carsystystems has cnfirm which mic to order i will advise, the label on the headunit clearly shows the mic inputs on quadlock position C.

I've asked them also - probably sick of us! But, all the pictures of the mic's seem to have very short wires?

That is because their mics are for the OEM loom or their supplied BT loom which needs to be run up in the A pillar.

TMC is transmitted in with the FM radio signal see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_message_channel#United_Kingdom

The mic itself is the same, just the loom from the headunit to worry about.

Those pics are great Welsh_Kai_Boy - thanks for your efforts and keeping us all informed. Are you going to fit the mic/ wiring/ loom yourself?

It will be good to know if there is anyone on here who could do the whole job (VCDS coding to installing Mic) for the likes of myself (who wouldn't have a clue) for a cost?

Cheers

Simples guys its only a case of getting the headunit out and running the mic up the A pillar.

Need help on the connector required and I will take the plunge and buy the loom.

hmmm I can see a trip to South Wales in the not too distant future! :giggle:

It isn't too bad a job to do, the glovebox will need to come out, A-pillar trim off and then drop the light unit. The A-trim is quite easy as long as you don't have curtain airbags, as the trims then have a two stage spring clip, did it a couple of times on my previous A3 once you get the hang of them it is fine. You will then need to fish the wire from the top of the A-pillar to the light fitting which is where the mic is installed.

Paul

thats the one i looked at! the fitting link you put up looks quite thorough is there a simpler way of doing it? surely there must be?
The microphone clips in to a location in the front interior light fitting (there's a square of holes on the right hand side hen viewed from the drivers seat), the lens unclips and two screws to remove it (one either side of the larger bulb). The loom can be run along the headlining and inside the A pillar (the left one would be good as the cable can be run behind the glovebox, someone mentioned earlier that the glovebox can be removed). the loom is then run to the back of the headunit and the green plug is inserted in to the hole below the fuse hole in the quadlock.http://www.my-gti.co...uetooth-install (just ignore the bluetooth module install as the Amundsen already has BT once VCDS enabled) shows how the mic clips in to the light

The dealers have no idea how to enable it, there quite rubbish really, is it easy to fit the mic?

How would Skoda view VCDS 'hacking' to enable BlueTooth. ie how would they view people 'messing around' with the VCDS software on the car. You may have an unrelated claim but if they spot your changes is it an excuse for them?

Just a thought - Anyone have any experience / knowledge in this area?

Are you able to retro fit iPod fixture
