Plug in tuning

Featured Replies

Viezu have come back on the ecu issue, and its as I said, they have to remove and open the ecu to remap it.

Joel, check with the OZ Viezu dealers as see if they agree.

I be checking for sure. Thanks Mate.

If that's the case it's back to the interceptor type tunning.

I'm pretty sure all CR engines (EDC17) was when removal was required. Long term the algorithms will be cracked/leaked and they can be flashed through the OBD2 port. But I don't know if/when. Someone might have done it already.

I've been talking to Revo about this as none of us like removing the ecu and opening it up, it's like going back to the 1990s. The problem with the security key is they very for each ecu type and application, which means a lot of keys will have to be discovered and released. Then the issue of who releases it to the world and who uses it first. The big tuners are convinced that the manufacturers will go after the first big tuner who uses these keys, not the small guy who gets a hack out there first. More money to be made from suing a big tuner.

It's not like the DVD crack that was released to the Internet years ago and used by lots of small hackers to produce ripping code before the mainstream came in some time after. The horse had already bolted, so there was no real point, although the movie industry did try and go after the guy (probably out of spite).

The past 10 years have been a constant battle between Bosch/Siemens/VAG/etc and the tuners, most times the tuners find a way round within 6-12 months, this one has been out there for 3 years now, 1024&2048 bit encryption are tough nuts, if they get cracked there's far more to worry about than ecu codes, secure on-line banking anyone?

I must be missing something because I cant understand why they want to lock it. Is the map really worth that much $$$. I can understand the map being copy writed but who else wants it? It's usless without the motor.

Maybe China could reverse engineer the motor but any decent tuner could generate a decent map in a few hours on a dyno. As far as I know that's exactly what we are buying of the aftermarket tuners.

Happy Days.

Well after having done some trips with the DTUK box fitted I'm pretty impressed with it.

Far more flexible in the higher gears, engine seems smoother and so far the MPG appears to have increased by around 10% according to the Maxidot. This obviously needs checking by filling brim to brim but would appear to be a significant increase.

Its beyond me why anyone would like to mess around with a perfectly tuned machine that does its job perfectly well.

And because you can't get a 170 DSG.

On a trip to the Lake District yesterday (165) miles, my Racechipped Yeti returned just over 63 mpg. Watching the fuel gauge, I don't think this is far off.

I also have fairly substantial overtaking performance.

John

Are you running a fuel log in that yeti? The dash readouts can be hugely inaccurate with aftermarket maps and tuning boxes.

  • 1 year later...

I've got a DTUK tuning box on order .....it's the CRDe (economy biased) for my 2012 Yeti.

I've tried to find out if power and torque are uprated on the economy version.....it doesn't plug into the turbo side like the CRD-T version does.

The 'site' doesn't clarify if there is a difference.
